Bridging Formal Shape Models and Deep Learning: A Novel Fusion for Understanding 3D Objects.

This article describes a novel fusion of a generative formal model for three-dimensional (3D) shapes with deep learning (DL) methods to understand the geometric structure of 3D objects and the relationships between their components, given a collection of unorganized point cloud measurements. Formal 3D shape models are implemented as shape grammar programs written in Procedural Shape Modeling Language (PSML). Users write PSML programs to describe complex objects, and DL networks estimate the configured free parameters of the program to generate 3D shapes. Users write PSML programs to enforce fundamental rules that define an object class and encode object attributes, including shapes, components, size, position, etc., into a parametric representation of objects. This fusion of the generative model with DL offers artificial intelligence (AI) models an opportunity to better understand the geometric organization of objects in terms of their components and their relationships to other objects. This approach allows human-in-the-loop control over DL estimates by specifying lists of candidate objects, the shape variations that each object can exhibit, and the level of detail or, equivalently, dimension of the latent representation of the shape. The results demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method over competing approaches.

Purpose: To determine the clinical effects of urethral suspension-assisted urethral anastomosis on complex long-segment posterior urethral stricture and describe the technical aspects of this procedure.

Materials And Methods: The clinical data for 24 patients who underwent urethral suspension-assisted urethral anastomosis for complex long-segment posterior urethral stricture between March 2021 and March 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. The surgical procedure comprises the following four steps: creation of an inverted Y-shaped incision in the perineum; mobilization of the urethra up to the penile-scrotal junction followed by dissection and separation of the septum of the corpus cavernosum; separation of the inferior pubic symphysis, excising a portion of the inferior pubic symphysis bone tissue and thoroughly clearing the scar tissue surrounding the proximal urethra; and suturing and suspension of the proximal urethra and surrounding tissues at the 2, 5, 7, and 10 o'clock positions, ensuring complete exposure of the proximal urethral mucosa and tension-free anastomosis between the proximal and distal urethra.

Background And Hypothesis: Formal thought disorder (FTD), studied even before the inception of the concept of schizophrenia, remains a deeply isolating experience for patients as well as a difficult one for their interlocutors, including clinicians.

Study Design: The views on language, paralinguistic, and extralinguistic features exhibited by patients with severe mental ill health are reviewed, including the contributions from 19th-century European authors to the last third of the 20th century.

Study Results: Stages in the construction of FTD are described, including its merging with Dementia Praecox, and its subsequently being shaped by notions such as primitive archaic thinking, paralogical or autistic thinking, concretism, overinclusive thinking, and the return of the efforts to describing it with increased reliability.
