Light-induced vicinal dibromination of unactivated alkenes and alkynes has been demonstrated by using methyl α-bromoacetate as a mild brominating agent. A near-visible light (370 nm) light-emitting diode (LED) mediates this simple dibromination reaction under mild conditions with the inexpensive and nontoxic α-bromoacetate. The reaction proceeds well with both terminal and internal alkenes and alkynes and those contained in N/O-heterocycles, indicating its versatility in synthesizing dibrominated organic compounds.

Considering the unique electronic properties of the CF and the CN groups, the CFCN group has significant potential in drug and agrochemical development, as well as material sciences. However, incorporating a CFCN group remains a considerable challenge. In this work, we disclose a use of bromodifluoroacetonitrile (BrCFCN), a cost-effective and readily available reagent, as a radical source for cyanodifluoromethylation of alkyl alkenes, aryl alkenes, alkynes, and (hetero)arenes under photocatalytic conditions.

Endocannabinoids have been shown to play a complex role in the pathophysiology of a number of cardiovascular disorders. In the present study, the effects of the two major endocannabinoids anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) were investigated in human coronary artery smooth muscle cells (HCASMC) and human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAEC) with regard to potential atheroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects. In HCASMC, AEA showed an inhibitory effect on platelet-derived growth factor-induced migration, but not proliferation, independent of major cannabinoid-activatable receptors (CB, CB, TRPV1), while 2-AG left both responses unaffected.

Purpose: The Baolier capsule (BLEC) is a proprietary Mongolian medicine administered for treating hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis (AS). However, the therapeutic effects, primary bioactive ingredients, and potential mechanisms underlying hypercholesterolemia and AS remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the pharmacological effects, principal active ingredients, and mechanisms of BLEC against hypercholesterolemia and AS.

Medical and surgical treatments for cystic echinococcosis (CE) are challenged by various complications. This study evaluates in vitro protoscolicidal activity of piperine-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (PIP-MSNs) against protoscoleces of Echinococcus granulosus. MSNs were prepared by adding tetraethyl orthosilicate to cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and NaOH, and then loaded with PIP.
