Analysis of GNSS-RTK Monitoring Background Noise Characteristics Based on Stability Tests.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd., Tianjin 300300, China.

GNSS-RTK offers numerous advantages and broad prospects in structural dynamic monitoring in civil engineering. However, in practical applications, GNSS-RTK accuracy is susceptible to the monitoring environments, causing actual monitoring accuracy to fall below its calibrated accuracy. This study investigates the monitoring accuracy and spectral characteristics of GNSS-RTK based on stability tests under different environments related to reflection and obstruction conditions (i.

Can the Dimensional Optimisation of 3D FDM-Manufactured Parts Be a Solution for a Correct Design?

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Industrial Engineering and Robotics Faculty, Politehnica University of Bucharest, Spl. Independentei 303, 060042 Bucharest, Romania.

Additive manufacturing technology, also known as 3D printing, has emerged as a viable alternative in modern manufacturing processes. Unlike traditional manufacturing methods, which often involve complex mechanical operations that can lead to errors and inconsistencies in the final product, additive technology offers a new approach that enables precise layer-by-layer production with improved geometric accuracy, reduced material consumption and increased design flexibility. Geometrical accuracy is a critical issue in industries such as aerospace, automotive, medicine and consumer goods, hence the importance of the following question: can the dimensional optimisation of 3D FDM-manufactured parts be a solution for correct design? This paper presents a complex study of model parts printed from four common polymers used in fused deposition modelling (FDM) additive technology, namely ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene), PLA (polylactic acid), HIPS (high-impact polystyrene) and PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol).

The purpose of this study is to analyze the large deflection problem of bimodular functionally graded truncated thin conical shells under the transverse mechanical load and non-uniform thermal load, in which two different boundary constraints of the truncated shell with two ends simply supported and fully fixed are considered. It is assumed that the temperature distribution along the thickness direction satisfies the Fourier law of heat transfer, and the material properties change exponentially along the thickness direction while different properties in tension and compression are considered. The geometric equation of the conical shell is established based on the equivalent method of curvature correction of von-Kármán deformation theory, and the analytical solution of the problem is obtained by Ritz method.

ADAR Therapeutics as a New Tool for Personalized Medicine.

Genes (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine, University of Brescia, 25123 Brescia, Italy.

In the field of RNA therapy, innovative approaches based on adenosine deaminases acting on RNA (ADAR)-mediated site-directed RNA editing (SDRE) have been established, providing an exciting opportunity for RNA therapeutics. ADAR1 and ADAR2 enzymes are accountable for the predominant form of RNA editing in humans, which involves the hydrolytic deamination of adenosine (A) to inosine (I). This inosine is subsequently interpreted as guanosine (G) by the translational and splicing machinery because of their structural similarity.

Would the Oceans Become Toxic to Humanity Due to Use and Mismanagement of Plastics?

Int J Environ Res Public Health

The production of plastics and associated products, including microplastics (MPs), has been surging over the past several decades and now poses a grave environmental threat. This is because when not appropriately recycled, incinerated, or disposed of in fully contained landfills, plastic waste manifests as a potent pollutant, with vast amounts finding their way into oceans annually, adversely impacting marine life and ecosystems. Additionally, research also confirms there are direct impacts from MPs on water, air, and soil, impacting ecosystem and human health.
