α-arbutin has important applications in cosmetics and medicine. However, the extraction yield from plant tissues is relatively low, which restricts its application value. In this study, we investigated the synthesis of α-arbutin using maltodextrin as the donor and hydroquinone as the acceptor, using a cyclodextrin glucosyltransferase (CGTase) from . We performed site-saturated and site-directed mutagenesis on CGTase. The activity of the variant CGTase-F235G-N166H was 3.48 times higher than that of the wild type. Moreover, we achieved a conversion rate of 63% by optimizing the reaction pH, temperature, and hydroquinone addition amount. Overall, this study successfully constructed a strain with improved conversion rate for the synthetic production of α-arbutin and hydroquinone. These findings have significant implications for reducing the industrial production cost of α-arbutin and enhancing the conversion rate of the product.

Recent advances in interfacial solar steam generation have made direct solar desalination a promising approach for providing cost-effective and environmentally friendly clean water solutions. However, developing highly effective, salt-resistant solar absorbers for long-term desalination at high efficiencies and evaporation rates remains a significant challenge. We present a Janus hydrogel-based absorber featuring a surface modified with thermo-responsive hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) and a hydrogel matrix containing photothermal conversion units, MXene, specifically designed for long-term seawater desalination.

The concurrent evolution of value-added benzimidazole compounds and hydrogen within the domain of chemical synthesis is of paramount importance. The utilization of photocatalysis enhances both the efficiency and environmental benignity of the synthetic process. However, it is profoundly challenging within a photocatalytic system to simultaneously augment the number of active sites and the internal transport rate of photogenerated charge carriers.

Cupric oxide (CuO) is a promising p-type semiconducting oxide used in many critical fields, such as energy conversion and storage, and gas sensors, which is attributed to its unique optoelectrical properties and cost-effectiveness. This work successfully deposited amorphous, pinhole-free, ultrathin CuO films using atmospheric pressure spatial atomic layer deposition (SALD) with copper(II) acetylacetonate and ozone as precursors. The growth rate increased from 0.

Background: Lactococcus lactis Z-2 was previously isolated from common carp intestine. In order to investigate the effects of optimal dose of L. lactis Z-2 on growth, host health and disease resistance to Aeromonas hydrophila in common carp, five experimental diets, including without (CK and CK+ groups) or with 5 × 10 (group A), 5 × 10 (group B) and 5 × 10 CFU g (group C) L.

Background: Sometimes, the identification of ground-glass opacities (GGOs), small or deep pulmonary nodules can be difficult also in expert hands. Usually for these lesions pulmonary lobectomy is an overtreatment, so we developed a technique to identify easily these nodules. The objective of this research is to assess the effectiveness and safety of using preoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to guide the placement of micro-coils in the lung parenchyma near GGO and small lesions.
