Background: Stretch service goals strive to motivate healthcare practitioners to maintain high quality in service provision. However, little is known about how stretch service goals trigger nurses' unethical behavior.

Research Aim: This study aimed to investigate the influence of stretch service goals on nurses' unethical behavior, as well as the mediating effects of patient entitlement and nurses' emotional dissonance.

Research Design: A quantitative cross-sectional study is designed.

Participants And Research Context: We sourced data by conducting a time-lagged three-wave survey study from March to September 2020. Random sampling was used, and data were collected from 422 nurse-patient pairs in Chinese hospitals. Bootstrapping method and structural equation modeling were employed to verify the conceptual model.

Ethical Considerations: The study was approved by the designated authority within hospitals and ethical committees.

Results: Stretch service goals are not directly related to nurses' unethical behavior. Stretch service goals can trigger nurses' unethical behavior via patient entitlement. Patient entitlement and nurses' emotional dissonance play a chain-mediating role between stretch service goals and nurses' unethical behavior.

Conclusions: In the context of the healthcare industry, nurses may engage in unethical behavior due to the pressure of achieving stretch service goals. This study contributes to opening the "black box" of stretch service goals and nurses' unethical behavior by exploring the chain-mediating effect of patient entitlement and nurses' emotional dissonance.

Highly Linear Stretching Sensors with Braiding Structure Constraining Cracks.

March 2025

Key Laboratory of Textile Fiber and Products, Ministry of Education, Wuhan Textile University, Wuhan, 430200, China.

Stretchable fiber-based electronics can be triggered by joint activities of human beings to produce varied resistance signals, provoking extensive attention from sports fitness, health care, wearables, and other related fields. The linearity of the response signal, as a quintessential parameter, is paramount for the performance evaluation of stretching sensors. In this study, three-strand braid (TSB) is fabricated via braiding three filaments of polypyrrole/polyurethane (PPy/PU).

Shared decision making with older people on treatment escalation planning for acute deterioration in the emergency medical setting: a UK-based qualitative study of patient perspectives (STREAMS-P).

Lancet Healthy Longev

February 2025

Division of Anaesthetics, Pain Management and Intensive Care, Department of Surgery and Cancer, Imperial College London, London, UK; Department of Intensive Care Medicine, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, UK.

Background: Shared decision making (SDM) in treatment escalation planning (TEP) involves patients and clinicians determining together a contingency for future health deterioration. Patients' role in health-care decision making is subject to ongoing debate. This study aimed to understand the perspectives of older patients in the UK on SDM in TEP for the acute hospital setting.

Background: Families experiencing the loss of their close other following advanced illness have varying degrees of needs that stretch into bereavement. Evidence-based recommendations for bereavement support are often not well implemented in palliative care services due to multiple system barriers and lack of contextual fit. To close this know-do gap, we undertook an implementation science research project.

Background: This protocol was developed to describe the design of a randomised controlled trial that will examine the clinical efficacy of a 6-week, novel, home-based stretching programme compared with usual care on the effect of symptoms experienced by patients with fibromyalgia. The hypothesis is that the total score of the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ-R) and other fibromyalgia symptoms will improve 6 weeks following the stretching intervention compared with usual care.

Methods: Fifty-eight adults under 65 years of age diagnosed with fibromyalgia will be recruited for this study.

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is a rare condition typically caused by a CSF leak at the level of the spine, leading to a reduction in intracranial pressure (ICP). This case describes a 55-year-old man who presented with visual disturbance, intermittent occipital headaches, nausea, altered hearing, and unsteady gait. The initial MRI of the head showed shallow bilateral subdural hematomas, which were believed to be secondary to the stretching of subdural veins.
