  • A 70-year-old woman had surgery for gastric adenocarcinoma in 2015 and 6 years later, a follow-up CT scan found a suspicious lung mass that looked like lymph nodes.
  • Further testing with PET/CT showed the mass in her bronchus indicating a possible cancer, while some lymph nodes appeared benign.
  • Ultimately, the lung tumor was diagnosed as middle-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma, a second primary cancer, highlighting the role of PET/CT and indicators like Ki in assessing cancer risks in patients with a history of tumors.

Although they usually have an indolent behavior, adenoid cystic carcinomas can be more aggressive, with 5-year survival as low as 55%.
