Short-range repulsion governs the dynamics of matter from atoms to animals. Using theory, simulations, and experiments, we find that an ensemble of repulsive particles spreads compactly with a sharp boundary, in contrast to the diffusive spreading of Brownian particles. Starting from the pair interactions, at high densities, the many-body dynamics follow nonlinear diffusion with a self-similar expansion, growing as t^{1/4}; At longer times, thermal motion dominates with the classic t^{1/2} expansion. A logarithmic growth controlled by nearest-neighbor interactions connects the two self-similar regimes.

The rapid expansion of the cosmetics industry has significantly increased the adoption of alternative microplastics in response to increasingly stringent global environmental regulations. This study presents a comparative analysis of the treatment performance of silica powder and cornstarch-common alternatives for microplastics in cosmetics-using ceramic membrane filtration combined with flow imaging microscopy (FlowCam) to analyze particle behavior. Bench-scale crossflow filtration experiments were performed with commercially available alumina ceramic membranes.

Study on the mechanics and self-sensing properties of ultrahigh-performance shotcrete containing waste glass aggregates.

Sci Rep

To promote the recycling of waste glass and satisfy the demands of environmental sustainability for ultrahigh performance concrete (UHPC), in this study, glass sand was employed to partially or entirely replace machine-made sand, and steel fibres were incorporated to fabricate ultrahigh performance shotcrete (UHPS). The effects of glass sand and steel fibres on the mechanical and electrical properties of composite materials were analysed in this study. Furthermore, alkali‒silica reaction (ASR) tests and microstructural analyses were conducted.

Embryo development begins with zygotic genome activation (ZGA), eventually generating blastocysts for implantation. However, in vitro systems modeling the pre-implantation development are still absent and challenging. Here, we used mouse totipotent blastomere-like cells (TBLCs) to develop spontaneous differentiation and blastoid formation systems, respectively.

Coil embolization of cerebral aneurysms often encounters challenges in achieving complete filling of the aneurysm sac due to complex shapes and hemodynamic factors, frequently resulting in the formation of a residual cavity (RC) at the aneurysm neck. The hemodynamic mechanisms underlying RC formation and growth, however, remain poorly understood. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, combined with silent MRA free from contrast agents and metal artifacts, offers a promising approach to elucidate these mechanisms, potentially enhancing the clinical management of cerebral aneurysms post-coiling.

Cemented Sand, Gravel, and Rock (CSGR) dams have traditionally used either Conventional Vibrated Concrete (CVC) or Grout-Enriched Roller Compacted Concrete (GERCC) for protective and seepage control layers in low- to medium-height dams. However, these methods are complex, prone to interference, and uneconomical due to significant differences in the expansion coefficient, elastic modulus, and hydration heat parameters among CSGR, CVC, and GERCC. This complexity complicates quality control during construction, leading to the development of Grout-Enriched Vibrated Cemented Sand, Gravel, and Rock (GECSGR) as an alternative.
