Introduction: Distinguishing meningiomas from other intracranial neoplasms is clinically relevant as the prognostic and therapeutic implications differ greatly and influence clinical decision making. Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) is an imaging technique that assists with characterisation of physiologic alterations such as blood flow and tissue vascular permeability. Quantitative pharmacokinetic analysis utilising DCE-MRI has not been studied in canine neuro-oncology.

Portal venous gas on abdominal ultrasound classically represents an indirect indicator of bowel ischemia, a critical condition which poses a high patient mortality and therefore warrants emergent corrective action. While the classic appearance of portal venous gas on ultrasound is well-described in the literature, the characteristic descriptors are nonspecific and may actually represent other less emergent mimics. Therefore, while radiologists should remain vigilant for the detection of findings corresponding to portal venous gas, they should also be aware of similar-appearing entities in order to provide the most accurate diagnosis.

We also highlight the advantages of functional data offered by FDG-PET as a useful follow-up tool to assess viability and, therefore, treatment response of previously known central nervous system lesions. The utility of recognizing characteristic patterns of FDG uptake in dural disease is also applicable in cases of diagnostic uncertainty, such as when evaluating isolated dural lesions or when distinguishing between Langerhans cell histiocytosis and similar appearing lesions such as meningiomas.
