is the only that causes zoonotic disease among the that cause infection in humans. It is fatal due to its short asexual growth cycle within 24 h. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), an enzyme that catalyzes the final step of glycolysis, is a biomarker for diagnosing infection by spp. parasite. Therefore, this study aimed to efficiently produce the soluble form of LDH (PkLDH) using a bacterial expression system for studying malaria caused by . Recombinant pET-21a(+)- plasmid was constructed by inserting the gene into a pET-21a(+) expression vector. Subsequently, the recombinant plasmid was inserted into the protein-expressing Rosetta(DE3) strain, and the optimal conditions for overexpression of the PkLDH protein were established using this strain. We obtained a yield of 52.0 mg/L PkLDH from the Rosetta(DE3) strain and confirmed an activity of 483.9 U/mg through experiments. This methodology for high-efficiency PkLDH production can be utilized for the development of diagnostic methods and drug candidates for distinguishing malaria caused by .

Inefficient control of elevated blood sugar levels can lead to certain health complications such as diabetic nephropathy (DN) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The identification of effective biomarkers for monitoring diabetes was performed in the present study. The present study aimed to investigate the implications of long non-coding RNA megacluster (lnc-MGC), microRNA (miR)-132 and miR-133a, and their correlation with lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) levels to identify biomarkers for the early diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, induced DN and CVD.

Fever of Unknown Origin: A Rare Diagnosis Requiring High Suspicion.

Cureus

December 2024

Internal Medicine, Unidade Local de Saúde de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Chaves, PRT.

Fever is a classic reason for hospital visits, sometimes requiring admission. Its etiologies are numerous, ranging from simple and relatively common conditions to rare and complex pathologies, for which the differential diagnosis can present a true challenge for internists. A 78-year-old healthy female is referred to the emergency department due to marked fatigue for the past four months, with no other symptoms.

Introduction: The grayling ( L.) has several advantages over other fish species that make it attractive for aquaculture and invest it with importance for food security. The study assessed the effects of a β-glucan-enriched diet on biomarkers of oxidative stress, energy metabolism and lysosomal function in muscle tissue of European grayling ( L.

Babesia bigemina is an apicomplexan parasite responsible for causing "Texas fever" in bovines. Current treatments for bovine babesiosis are hindered by several limitations, including toxicity, insufficient efficacy in eliminating the parasite, and the potential for resistance development. A promising approach to overcome these challenges is the identification of compounds that specifically target essential metabolic pathways unique to the parasite.

Effect of multiorgan abdominal ischemic preconditioning on experimental kidney transplantation.

Acta Cir Bras

December 2024

Universidad Nacional de La Plata - Faculty of Medicine - Organ Transplant Laboratory - La Plata - Argentina.

Purpose: To mitigate ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) triggered in solid organ transplant procedures, we aimed to evaluate the effects of multi-organ abdominal ischemic preconditioning (MAIP) in the context of renal IRI.

Methods: An experimental kidney transplant model was conducted. Rats were divided into three groups: an intervention free basal group from which physiological data was collected; a control group (CT), which consisted of transplanted animals without MAIP; and a treated group, in which a MAIP protocol was implemented in the donor during the procurement of the left kidney, monitoring the recipient for 24 hours.
