Background/objectives: Pregnant and postpartum women have a higher risk for developing severe Covid-19 and other clinical and obstetric complications. This study aims to evaluate the frequency of metabolic acidosis with elevated anion gap and describe a case series of euglycemic ketoacidosis (EKA) in pregnant and postpartum women with severe confirmed or suspected Covid-19.
Materials And Methods: Observational retrospective study carried in a reference intensive care unit from May 2020 to June 2022.

BACKGROUND Tirzepatide is a long-acting glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist administered via subcutaneous injection for weight reduction and treating type 2 diabetes. CASE REPORT We report case series of hypoglycemic ketoacidosis after the use of tirzepatide to treat nondiabetic patients with obesity from Kuwait. The first case was a 29-year-old woman with a body mass index (BMI) of 32 kg/m² who developed abdominal pain and vomiting after increasing the dose to 5 mg subcutaneously in week 5 of treatment.

Organisms are repeatedly exposed to fluctuating environmental and nutritional conditions. Transcriptional memory has been shown to be a mechanism to cope with these fluctuations because it increases the speed and the magnitude of the cellular response to a certain re-occurring condition and therefore optimizes adaptation and fitness in a given environment. We found that genes coding for sterigmatocystin (ST) production in Aspergillus nidulans are activated stronger when cells are repeatedly exposed to nutrient starvation, compared to cells that experience this condition for the first time.

Background: Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMAS) is a very rare disease that causes starvation and malnutrition secondary to a mechanical obstruction of the 3 portion of the duodenum between the superior mesenteric artery and aorta. Long-term outcomes following surgery for SMAS by current methods have a high failure rate of 21%-67%. We report the 3-year outcomes of a novel operation for SMAS described as the duodenoduodenostomy (DD).
