Background: Nature has given us an enormous number of medicines for every disease that affects people.

Aim: To compare the antimicrobial efficacy of an herbal and 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthrinse against , and .

Materials And Methods: The antimicrobial effectiveness (zone of inhibition) of a herbal mouthrinse and 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthrinse were determined by agar well-diffusion method.

Results: At 50% concentration, the experimental mouthrinse inhibits the growth of , , and .

Conclusion: Against the three strains, chlorhexidine mouthrinse (0.2%) performs better in terms of antimicrobial effectiveness.

Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karanataka, 576104, India.

Objectives: Good oral hygiene measures are important for successful orthodontic treatment. They involve various types of mouthwashes which have been reported to cause alteration of mechanical properties of archwires. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a new kind of chlorine-dioxide-containing mouthwash on the mechanical properties and surface morphology of stainless steel orthodontic archwires against the already prevalent chlorhexidine mouthwash in the market.

Povidone-iodine (PI) is the standard antiseptic for intravitreal injections (IVIs), while chlorhexidine (CHX) is a potential alternative. The efficacy of PI versus CHX in preventing endophthalmitis remains debated, with studies showing mixed results. To compare the effectiveness of using PI compared with CHX in IVI procedures regarding endophthalmitis rates, culture-positive endophthalmitis rates, and changes in visual acuity.

Background And Aim: Skin antisepsis plays a crucial role in pre-operative skin preparation, with chlorhexidine gluconate and alcohol being historically the preferred choice. However, concerns have risen regarding the development of bacterial resistance to chlorhexidine. Polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) combined with Tris-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (Tris-EDTA) has recently emerged as a skin and wound antiseptic.

Objective: Aim of this study was to critically appraise clinical evidence on the potential benefits of adjunctive use of superfoods green tea and turmeric as mouthrinse or local delivery agents in the treatment of periodontal disease.

Materials And Methods: Electronic searches were performed in four databases for randomized trials from inception to February 2024 assessing the supplemental use of superfoods green tea and turmeric for gingivitis/periodontitis treatment. After duplicate study selection, data extraction, and risk-of-bias assessment with the RoB 2 tool, random-effects meta-analyses of Mean Differences (MD) or Standardized Mean Differences (SMD) with their 95% confidence intervals (CI) were performed.

Antiseptics have been used for infection control against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Ethanol (EtOH) was found to be effective against SARS-CoV-2, while chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) was less effective. Therefore, virucidal activity may differ between different classes of antiseptic agents.
