Published: July 2024

The rise of , a multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen, across more than 40 countries, has signaled an alarming threat to global health due to its significant resistance to existing antifungal therapies. Characterized by its rapid spread and robust drug resistance, presents a critical challenge in managing infections, particularly in healthcare settings. With research on its biological traits and genetic basis of virulence and resistance still in the early stages, there is a pressing need for a concerted effort to understand and counteract this pathogen. This review synthesizes current knowledge on the epidemiology, biology, genetic manipulation, pathogenicity, diagnostics, and resistance mechanisms of , and discusses future directions in research and therapeutic development. By exploring the complexities surrounding , we aim to underscore the importance of advancing research to devise effective control and treatment strategies.

Conjugative plasmids promote the dissemination and evolution of antimicrobial resistance in bacterial pathogens. However, plasmid acquisition can produce physiological alterations in the bacterial host, leading to potential fitness costs that determine the clinical success of bacteria-plasmid associations. In this study, we use a transcriptomic approach to characterize the interactions between a globally disseminated carbapenem resistance plasmid, pOXA-48, and a diverse collection of multidrug resistant (MDR) enterobacteria.

Bacterial biofilms represent a formidable challenge in the treatment of chronic wounds, largely because of their resistance to conventional antibiotics. The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial strains exacerbates this issue, necessitating a shift towards exploring alternative therapeutic approaches. In response to this urgent need, there has been a surge in research efforts aimed at identifying effective non-antibiotic treatments.

Background And Objectives: The incidence of multidrug-resistant, Gram-negative organisms, isolated as the etiological agents of infections is ascending. The advent of novel antibiotics poses significant challenges, necessitating the optimization and utilization of extant antimicrobial agents. Cefoperazone, a third-generation cephalosporin and β-lactam antimicrobial, when combined with sulbactam, an irreversible β-lactamase inhibitor, mitigates the vulnerability of cefoperazone to β-lactamase-producing organisms.

Background And Objectives: is a common pathogen associated with healthcare-related infections. It is particularly notable for its ability to develop resistance to multiple antibiotics, making treatment challenging. During the COVID-19 pandemic, increased antibiotic use to manage critically ill patients was contributed to the rise of multidrug-resistant .

Detection of the methicillin-resistant gene encoding in nasal swabs of cats in Surabaya, Indonesia.

Open Vet J

November 2024

Master Program of Veterinary Medicine and Public Health Science, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia.

Background: The most susceptible group of people to spread methicillin-resistant (MRSA) among domestic cats is their owners' relatives.

Aim: Considering the aforementioned, research at the Surabaya City Animal Hospital is necessary to determine whether the A gene may be detected in cat nasal swabs.

Methods: Samples were taken using a sterile cotton swab, and the transport medium was buffered peptone water.
