Designing cost-effective electrocatalysts for water decomposition is crucial for achieving environmental-friendly hydrogen production. A transition metal sulfide/hydroxide electrocatalyst (1T-MoS/NiS/LDH) with double heterogeneous interfaces was developed through a two-step hydrothermal assisted electrodeposition method. The presence of the two built-in electric fields not only accelerated the charge transfer at the interface, but also enhanced the adsorption of the reactants and intermediate groups, and therefore improved the reaction rate and overall catalytic performance. The results suggest that the 1T-MoS/NiS/LDH catalysts display exceptional electrocatalytic reactivity. Under alkaline conditions, the overpotential of the electrocatalyst was 187 (η) mV for OER and 104 (η) mV for HER. Furthermore, the two-electrode system assembled by the electrocatalyst needs only a voltage of 1.55 V to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm. Our result provides a simple and effective methodical approach to the design of dual heterogeneous interfacial electrocatalysts.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the terahertz detection capabilities of the two-dimensional antiferromagnetic semimetal NbFeTe, highlighting its unique properties.
  • The interaction of antiferromagnetic moments and electron spins leads to a nonlinear increase in the material's responsivity as temperatures drop, facilitated by the use of asymmetric electrodes.
  • The NbFeTe₂/graphene heterojunction achieves impressive performance metrics, indicating its potential for high-speed imaging in terahertz applications.

Compositionally-graded ferroelectric thin films by solution epitaxy produce excellent dielectric stability.

Nat Commun

State Key Laboratory of Silicon and Advanced Semiconductor Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, 310027, China.

The composition in ferroelectric oxide films is decisive for optimizing properties and device performances. Controlling a composition distribution in these films by a facile approach is thus highly desired. In this work, we report a solution epitaxy of PbZrTiO films with a continuous gradient of Zr concentration, realized by a competitive growth at ~220 °C.

This paper focuses on a four-capacitor flexible sensor composed of two electrode materials; also, the decoupling method and sensing performance for multimodal sensing of spatial forces and dynamic humidity are described. In previous work, decoupling of multimode sensors is mostly done by monitoring the types of signals, numerical differences of the same signal, and stacking multiple parameter-sensitive materials. This paper mainly uses the different characteristics of the two electrode materials; in the simulation and experiment of humidity, the moisture-sensitive electrode quickly wets from the outside to the inside and expands, and the contact angle quickly decreases from 58.

Symmetry Engineering in a 2D Transition Metal Enables Reconfigurable P- and N-Type FETs.

Department of Applied Physical Sciences, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27514, United States.

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metals enable the elimination of metal-induced gap states and Fermi-level pinning in field-effect transistors (FETs), offering an advantage over conventional metal contacts. However, transition metal substrates typically exhibit nonoriented behaviors, leading to the inability to achieve monolingual responses with P- or N-type semiconductors. Here we devise symmetry engineering in an oxidized architectural MXene, termed OXene, which implements the exploiting and coupling of additional out-of-plane electron conduction and built-in polar structures.

School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Materials Laminating Fabrication and Interface Control Technology, Hebei University of Technology, Tianjin 300130, China. Electronic address:

Ammonia borane (NHBH, AB) is considered a promising chemical hydrogen storage material. The development of efficient, stable, and economical catalysts for AB hydrolysis is essential for realizing the hydrogen energy economy. In this study, a series of p-p heterojunction catalysts, labeled M (P/S/Cl)-CuCoO, were fabricated using the high-temperature vapor phase method to achieve anionic interface gradient doping.
