Deficits in executive functions (EF) are strongly related to real-life functioning and negative symptoms (NS) in schizophrenia. Recently, virtual reality has enabled more ecologically valid approaches to assess EF in simulated "real-life" scenarios among which the virtual cooking task (VCT) has gained attention. However, the clinical implications of the VCT in schizophrenia have not been investigated exhaustively. In this study, clinically stable individuals with schizophrenia ( = 38) and healthy controls ( = 42) completed a novel VCT and a set of computerized standard EF tools (CST) to primarily investigate concurrent and discriminant validity. In addition, the study explored links between EF assessments, functioning, and NS while controlling for antipsychotic intake, clinical stability, and age. This VCT consisted of four tasks with increasing difficulty and time constraints. The most relevant findings indicate that (1) the VCT showed moderate to strong correlations with CST, (2) the VCT discriminated EF performance between both the groups, (3) the VCT predicted interpersonal functioning, and (4) the VCT predicted NS in greater extent than CST. Accordingly, the findings give support to the concurrent and discriminant validity of the VCT to assess EF and indicate its value to deepen the study of collateral functional deficits and NS in schizophrenia.

Chronic musculoskeletal pain in pediatric patients can be challenging to diagnose, particularly in the absence of overt signs of autoimmune disease, as these episodes can manifest episodically. We present a case of a 14-year-old female patient with a two-year history of episodic "bone pain," morning stiffness, and infrequent fever and fatigue. Laboratory testing revealed an antinuclear antibody (ANA) titer of 1:1280 with a nuclear homogeneous pattern and a mildly elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether virtual computed tomography (vCT) derived from daily cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), or on-treatment magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can replace quality assurance computed tomography (qCT) in our clinical workflow to minimize imaging dose and potentially anesthesia exposure in patients requiring plan adaptation.
Methods And Materials: Pediatric patients (age <24 years) treated from 2020 to 2023 with intensity modulated proton therapy with at least 1 qCT during proton therapy were eligible. For cases that required plan adaptation, the dose was recalculated on vCT and compared with same-day qCT as well as the original planning computed tomography (pCT).
