This paper introduces a tunable and high-quality photon source that utilizes evanescent-wave coupling phase matching. By adjusting the coupling gap, the signal light can be tuned from 1307 nm to 1493.9 nm, and the idler light can be tuned from 1612.8 nm to 1907 nm. Throughout the entire tuning range, the purity of the photon pairs remains above 92%. In specific tuning ranges (signal photons from 1307 nm to 1421.7 nm and idler photons from 1706.4 nm to 1907 nm), the purity exceeds 99% and the full width at half-maximum of the generated photon spectra is less than 1.85 nm. The photon source is designed using a silicon-organic hybrid waveguide, which effectively minimizes the impact of two-photon absorption and achieves a 15 dB enhancement in four-wave mixing conversion efficiency compared to a strip waveguide. This design may promote efficient and precise generation of high-quality photons at desired frequencies, offering promising potential for various applications in quantum technologies.

Nuclear power plant decommissioning requires the rapid and accurate classification of radioactive waste in narrow spaces and under time constraints. Photon-counting detector technology offers an effective solution for the quick classification and detection of radioactive hotspots in a decommissioning environment. This paper characterizes a 5 mm CdTe Timepix3 detector and evaluates its feasibility as a single-layer Compton camera.

, a halophilic unicellular chlorophyte, produces bioactive compounds and biofuels applicable to various industries. Despite its industrial significance, comprehensive studies on the morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics of the genus remain challenging. In this study, we characterized an axenically isolated green alga from a salt pond in Taean, Republic of Korea, and assessed its industrially relevant traits.

This paper presents the initial results of the synthesis of β-GaO luminescent ceramics via plasma gas-thermal spraying synthesis, where low-temperature plasma of an argon and nitrogen mixture was employed. A direct current electric arc generator of high-enthalpy plasma jet with a self-aligning arc length and an expanding channel of an output electrode served as a plasma source. The feedstock material consisted of a polydisperse powder of monocrystalline β-GaO with particle sizes ranging from 5 to 50 μm.

Photon (X-ray) radiotherapy is the most common treatment used in cancer therapy. However, the exposure of normal tissues and organs at risk to ionising radiation often results in a significant incidence of low-grade adverse side effects, whilst high-grade toxicities also occur at concerningly high rates. As an alternative, boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) aims to create densely ionising helium and lithium ions directly within cancer cells, thus sparing the surrounding normal cells and tissues but also leading to significantly more effective tumour control than X-rays.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the possibility of image improvement of ECG-gated, high-pitch computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the thoracoabdominal aorta before transaortic valve replacement (TAVR) on a novel dual-source photon-counting detector CT (PCD-CT) in the setting of suboptimal low-contrast attenuation.

Methods: Continuously examined patients who underwent an ECG-gated, high-pitch CTA of the aorta on a PCD-CT with a contrast decrease of at least 50% between the ascending aorta and the common femoral arteries (CFA) were included. Patient characteristics were documented.
