Fluid and enzyme secretion from exocrine glands is initiated by Ca signalling in acinar cells and is activated by external neural or hormonal signals. A wealth of information has been derived from studies in acutely isolated exocrine cells but Ca signalling has until recently not been studied in undisrupted intact tissue in live mice. Our in vivo observations using animals expressing genetically encoded Ca indicators in specific cell types in exocrine glands revealed both similarities to and differences from the spatiotemporal characteristics previously reported in isolated cells. These in vivo studies facilitate further understanding of how both neuronal and hormonal input shapes Ca signalling events in a physiological setting and how these signals are translated into the stimulation of fluid secretion and exocytosis.

is a blood-sucking parasite that causes heavy infestations on cattle and is a vector for severe tick-borne diseases, such as anaplasmosis and babesiosis, and poses a significant threat to the cattle industry. Cattle ticks show increasing acaricide resistance, which creates an additional problem concerning the inefficient chemical control of tick populations in cattle-grazing areas, necessitating the exploration of alternative tick biocontrol methods. Our study aimed to demonstrate the acaropathogenic efficacy of two bacterial species during experimental infections on .

Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the infiltration of lymphocytes on salivary and lacrimal glands, resulting in their dysfunction. Patients suffering from severe pSS have an increased risk of developing multi-organ dysfunction syndrome due to the development of systemic inflammatory response, which results in immune cell-driven injury of the lungs, kidneys, liver, and brain. Therapeutic agents that are used for the treatment of severe pSS encounter various limitations and challenges that can impact their effectiveness.

: A Warthin tumor is a benign salivary gland neoplasm, mostly found in the parotid gland. The number of reported Warthin tumors has increased over the years due to better diagnostic modalities and health system modernization. Warthin tumor rarely transforms into a malignant tumor; in this work, we present all cases reported in the English literature of different types of lymphomas within Warthin tumors.

The role of occult nodal metastases in patients with parotid gland cancers remains unclear; such metastases are histologically diverse and exhibit unpredictable clinical courses. Here, we evaluated the prognostic utilities of such metastases, including metastases in the intraparenchymal lymph nodes (PARs). We retrospectively reviewed the medical charts of patients who underwent surgery to treat clinically N0 primary parotid gland cancers from 2000 to 2022.

Lipoteichoic acid (LTA), an organic acid of Gram-positive bacteria, is closely related to mastitis in dairy cows. This study evaluates the effect of LTA-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER stress) in vitro using MAC-T (mammary epithelial cells) and in dairy cows with mastitis. LTA stimulation significantly increases ER stress and apoptosis-related factors in MAC-T.
