Introduction: Bladder cancer is one of the most important diseases that threatens oral and dental health due to its nature and side effects of chemotherapy. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between oral health literacy and oral health-related quality of life in patients with bladder cancer.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on patients with bladder cancer in Ahvaz, 2023. Subjects were selected randomly from the patients those were registered in Cancer Registry Center in Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical sciences and invited to Golestan Hospital for data collection through clinical evaluation, the Oral Health Literacy Adult Questionnaire (OHL-AQ), and the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14PER) questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient, independent -test, and analysis of variance.

Results: The number of participants was 194. The mean oral health literacy in patients with bladder cancer was 9.74 ± 2.39, indicating insufficient oral health literacy. A significant association was observed between OHL-AQ and DMFT index, but no significant association was found between OHIP-14PER and DMFT index. Furthermore, a significant correlation was found between OHL-AQ and OHIP-14PER ( = -0.68) in patients with bladder cancer.

Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study, all dimensions of oral health literacy have correlation with the oral health-related quality of life in patients with bladder cancer. Therefore, adopting oral health behaviors and increasing oral health literacy can be the best way to improve the oral health-related quality of life to among patients with bladder cancer.

A hallmark of chronic and inflammatory diseases is the formation of a fibrotic and stiff extracellular matrix (ECM), typically associated with abnormal, leaky microvascular capillaries. Mechanisms explaining how the microvasculature responds to ECM alterations remain unknown. Here, we used a microphysiological model of capillaries on a chip mimicking the characteristics of healthy or fibrotic collagen to test the hypothesis that perivascular cells mediate the response of vascular capillaries to mechanical and structural changes in the human ECM.

The Difficulties of Treating Complement-3-Mediated Glomerulopathy.

Am J Ther

January 2025

Northwell, New Hyde Park, NY, Department of Medicine, Manhasset, NY.

Background: C3 glomerulopathy (C3G) is a rare disease affecting the complement alternative pathway, categorized into dense deposit disease and C3 glomerulonephritis. Dense deposit disease predominantly affects younger individuals, while C3 glomerulonephritis tends to manifest in older populations. The diseases are characterized by dysregulation of the complement alternative pathway, leading to the deposition of complement components in the glomeruli and subsequent renal dysfunction.

Purpose: Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is a transcription factor that is essential for the survival and immune sequestration of cancer cells. We conducted a phase 1 study of TTI‑101, a first-in-class, selective small-molecule inhibitor of STAT3, in patients with advanced metastatic cancer.

Patients And Methods: Patients were treated with TTI-101 orally twice daily in 28-day cycles at 4 dose levels (DLs): 3.

Diabetes exacerbates periodontitis by overexpressing reactive oxygen species (ROS), which leads to periodontal bone resorption. Consequently, it is imperative to relieve inflammation and promote alveolar bone regeneration comprehensively for the development of diabetic periodontal treatment strategies. Furthermore, an orderly treatment to avoid interference between these two processes can achieve the optimal therapeutic effect.
