Virtually noiseless due to the scarcity of spinful nuclei in the lattice, simple oxides hold promise as hosts of solid-state spin qubits. However, no suitable spin defect has yet been found in these systems. Using high-throughput first-principles calculations, we predict spin defects in calcium oxide with electronic properties remarkably similar to those of the NV center in diamond. These defects are charged complexes where a dopant atom - Sb, Bi, or I - occupies the volume vacated by adjacent cation and anion vacancies. The predicted zero phonon line shows that the Bi complex emits in the telecommunication range, and the computed many-body energy levels suggest a viable optical cycle required for qubit initialization. Notably, the high-spin nucleus of each dopant strongly couples to the electron spin, leading to many controllable quantum levels and the emergence of atomic clock-like transitions that are well protected from environmental noise. Specifically, the Hanh-echo coherence time increases beyond seconds at the clock-like transition in the defect with Bi. Our results pave the way to designing quantum states with long coherence times in simple oxides, making them attractive platforms for quantum technologies.

Despite recent substantial advances in water treatment, the ability to selectively degrade trace micropollutants in real waters with complex matrix components remains a grand challenge. Here we report rational crafting of graphene oxide (GO)-wrapped defective TiO2 composite catalysts that creates nanoscopic confinement over the TiO2 surface within GO, thereby enabling the selective degradation of micropollutants through effectively excluding natural organic matter (NOM) and anions from the nanoconfined catalytic sites. In contrast to unconfined counterparts, the nanoconfined composite catalysts retain high degradation efficiency when exposed to various concentrations of NOM and anions, even in real water samples.

In this study, polyethylene glycol 200 (PEG200) was employed as hydrogen bond acceptor, while organic acids served as hydrogen bond donors, to formulate poly-deep eutectic solvents (PDESs), which were utilized to pretreat tea stem. Specially, combining PEG200 and oxalic acid (OA) exhibited a notably high cellulose retention (82.03 %) and most efficient hemicellulose (97.

Detection and analysis of organochlorine pesticides (OCP) residue is getting significant research importance because of their extensive use despite their hazardous effects on the health of people and the ecosystem. Despite the implementation of regulations and bans to safeguard human health and the environment, reports frequently reveal the continued use of these harmful chemicals in quantities exceeding the recommended limits set by regulatory boards. Data on the use of OCP from India, the most populous country, and African countries is not very encouraging.

We have successfully prepared a significant number of nanowires from non-toxic silicon sources. Compared to the SiO silicon source used in most other articles, our preparation method is much safer. It provides a simple and harmless new preparation method for the preparation of silicon nanowires.

In many industrial activities, workers may be exposed by inhalation to particles that are aerosolized, To predict the human health hazard of these materials, we propose to develop a co-culture model (macrophages, granulocytes, and alveolar epithelial cells) designed to be more representative of the inflammatory pulmonary response occurring in vivo. Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA)-differentiated THP-1 cells were used as macrophages, All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA)-differentiated HL60 were used as granulocytes and A549 were used as epithelial alveolar type II cells. A crystalline silica sample DQ12 was used as a prototypical particle for its capabilities to induce DNA damage, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress in epithelial cells; its polyvinylpyridine-N-oxide (PVNO)-surface modified counterpart was also used as a negative particulate control.
