Introduction: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a chronic systemic degenerative disease affecting small blood vessels in the brain, leading to cognitive impairments. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that applies low electrical currents to the scalp, shows promise in treating cognitive and movement disorders. However, further clinical evaluation is required to assess the long-term effects of tDCS on neuroplasticity and gait in patients with CSVD.

Background: We aimed to explore changes in decision-related brain microstructure, brain functional activities, and functional connectivity, and their correlations with cognitive function in end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). Furthermore, the impact of dialysis on these changes was examined.

Methods: Thirty ESKD patients undergoing PD, 20 chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 5 patients without dialysis (predialysis CKD stage 5), and 30 healthy controls (HC) were recruited for the study.

Structural and functional alterations in hypothalamic subregions in male patients with alcohol use disorder.

Drug Alcohol Depend

January 2025

Department of Neurology, Incheon St. Mary's Hospital, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Background: The hypothalamus is involved in stress regulation and reward processing, with its various nuclei exhibiting unique functions and connections. However, human neuroimaging studies on the hypothalamic subregions are limited in drug addiction. This study examined the volumes and functional connectivity of hypothalamic subregions in individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Background: Cognitive decline may occur in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and is particularly severe in patients with ESRD undergoing hemodialysis; however, the mechanism of this relationship between cognitive decline and ESRD is unclear. Cortical-based structural and functional analysis can be used to understand these cortical changes and their relationship with cognitive decline in non-dialysis and maintenance dialysis ESRD patients. This study aimed to examine whether there was any correlation between alterations in cortical and resting-state function changes and cognitive decline in patients diagnosed with ESRD.
