Machine learning has become a powerful tool for computational analysis in the biomedical sciences, with its effectiveness significantly enhanced by integrating domain-specific knowledge. This integration has give rise to informed machine learning, in contrast to studies that lack domain knowledge and treat all variables equally (uninformed machine learning). While the application of informed machine learning to bioinformatics and health informatics datasets has become more seamless, the likelihood of errors has also increased.

In this chapter, we describe the design and manufacture of a Lab-on-a-Chip (LoC) device suitable for measuring the μN forces exerted by tips of growing Phytophthora hyphae. LoC describes microfluidic devices, typically made of the polymer polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), that are increasingly being used to answer fundamental questions in biological, chemical, physical, and medical research. These LoC devices enable the integration of several laboratory functions on small plastic devices that are quick to produce and easy to replicate.

Objectives: Technology, mobile health (mHealth), and "eHealth" are broadly used in childhood overweight and obesity interventions. However, the impact of technology-based interventions where parents or caregivers are involved is unclear. Thus, the objective of this manuscript is to provide valuable insights about the development of a parent-child web-based tool to promote healthy eating among preadolescents.

Background: In response to the growing need for effective programmes to promote healthy eating habits among children in real-world settings, we conducted a qualitative study. Our aim was to explore the content-related needs of early childhood education and care (ECEC) staff regarding the core components of an upcoming digital "healthy eating" resource. This resource, designed for real-world implementation through the Nutrition Now project, seeks to enhance children's nutrition and health within ECEC settings.
