Alterations in brain networks may cause the lowering of the seizure threshold and hypersynchronization that underlie the recurrence of unprovoked seizures in epilepsy. The aim of this work is to estimate functional network characteristics, which may help predicting outcome of epilepsy surgery. Twenty patients were studied (11 females, 9 males, mean age 33 years) with scalp-recorded HD-EEG in resting state (eyes closed, no interictal discharges) before intracranial evaluation, which allowed the precise determination of the epileptogenic zone.

Different organizational structures have been argued to underlie semantic knowledge about concepts; taxonomic organization, based on shared features, and thematic organization based on co-occurrence in common scenes and scenarios. The goal of the current study is to examine which of the two organizational systems are more engaged in the semantic context of a picture naming task. To address this question, we examined the representational structure underlying the semantic space in different picture naming tasks by applying representational similarity analysis (RSA) to electroencephalography (EEG) datasets.

Working memory (WM) describes the temporary storage of task-relevant items and procedural rules to guide action. Despite its central importance for goal-directed behavior, the interplay between WM and long-term memory (LTM) remains poorly understood. Recent studies have shown that repeated use of the same task-relevant item in WM results in a hand-off of the storage of that item to LTM, and switching to a new item reactivates WM.
