Article Synopsis
  • - Talar avascular necrosis (AVN) often develops after severe talar neck fractures, with early detection being vital to prevent serious damage; conditions like diabetes and systemic lupus can contribute to AVN risk.
  • - Initial stages of AVN (I-II) can often be treated non-surgically, while advanced stages (III-IV) may require more invasive procedures like hindfoot arthrodesis or total talar replacement (TTR).
  • - The rise of advanced prosthetics through 3D printing is improving the success rate of TTR, which offers benefits like reduced pain, fewer complications, and preservation of limb length compared to traditional joint-sacrificing procedures.

Background: Ankle fusion after removal of alloplasty is known to be a procedure with a high potential for non-unions and poor function, especially tibio-talo-calcaneal fusion. We wanted to review our results after using a novel method for the procedure, combining retrograde nailing with a trabecular metal implant and bone marrow aspirate concentration applied in an ostoconductive pad in addition to autologous bone grafting.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective review of a patient series, with some prospectively registered data.

Klinika dětské a dospělé ortopedie a traumatologie 2. lékařské fakulty Univerzity Karlovy a Fakultní nemocnice v Motole, Praha.

INTRODUCTION The purpose of our paper is to evaluate the mid-term to long-term results and to confirm the basic criteria of a high-quality revision implant: safe bridging of bone defects, achievement of reliable primary fixation of revision acetabular cup, achievement of good secondary stability with documentable osteointegration of cup and demonstration of remodelling of transplanted bone tissue in the area of defects and in spaces between the implant ribs. MATERIAL AND METHODS Altogether 36 patients (38 cups) were evaluated who had undergone revision hip arthroplasty in the period from 2004 to 2010. The mean follow-up was 8.

Treatment of metastatic lesions localized in the acetabulum.

J Orthop Surg Res

April 2016

Department of Orthopedic Oncology, Podkarpacie Oncology Centre, Specialist Hospital in Brzozów, Bielawskiego 18, 36-200, Brzozów, Polska.

Background: Metastatic lesions localized in the periacetabular area cause troublesome pain and reduced mobility of the patients. Radiotherapy effectively decreases pain, yet it does not restore the ability to load the joint. Surgical treatment involving resection of metastatic lesions and joint reconstruction using bone grafts is burdened with a high rate of complications.
