A rising quantity of drugs has been discharged into the aquatic environment, posing a substantial hazard to public health. In the current work, a novel hydrogel (i.Carr@Bent@PTC), comprised of iota-carrageenan, bentonite, and 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide, was successfully prepared. The introduction of 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide and bentonite in iota-carrageenan significantly increased the mechanical strength of iota-carrageenan hydrogel and improved its degree of swelling, which can be attributed to the hydrophilic properties of PTC and Bent. The recorded contact angle was 70.8°, 59.1°, 53.9°, and 34.6° for pristine i.Carr, i.Carr@Bent, and i.Carr@Bent@PTC, respectively. The low contact angle measurement of the Bent and PTC loaded-i.Carr hydrogel was attributed to the hydrophilic Bent and PTC. The ternary i.Carr@Bent@PTC hydrogel demonstrated broad pH adaptability and excellent adsorption capacities for sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and losartan potassium (LP), i.e., 467.61 mg. g and 274.43 mg. g at 298.15 K, respectively. The pseudo-first-order (PSO) model provided a better fit for the adsorption kinetics. The adsorption of SMX and LP can be better explained by employing the Sips and Langmuir isotherm models. As revealed by XPS and FTIR investigations, π-π stacking, complexation, electrostatic interaction, and hydrogen bonding were primarily involved in the adsorption mechanisms.

The role of the intrarenal renin-angiotensin system (iRAS) in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) progression remains unclear. In this study, we generated mice with renal tubule-specific deletion of angiotensinogen (Agt; RT-Agt-/-) in both Akita and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced mouse model of diabetes. Both Akita RT-Agt-/- and STZ-RT-Agt-/- mice exhibited significant attenuation of glomerular hyperfiltration, urinary albumin/creatinine ratio, glomerulomegaly and tubular injury.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the impact of arginine vasopressin (AVP) and angiotensin II (Ang II) on aquaporin 2 (AQP2) expression in M - 1 cells.
Methods: M - 1 cells were stimulated with desmopressin (dDAVP) and Ang II, followed by treatment with tolvaptan and losartan. The expression and protein levels of V2R, AT1R, AQP2, and p-S256AQP2 were measured via ELISA, western blotting, RT-qPCR, and immunofluorescence.

Structurally knowing the active sites of a drug is important for understanding its therapeutic functions. S086 is a novel angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor that consists of the molecular moieties of EXP3174 (the active metabolite of the angiotensin receptor blocker losartan) and sacubitril (a neprilysin inhibitor prodrug) in a 1:1 molar ratio. There are two forms of cocrystals of S086, namely, ξ-crystal and α-crystal, which were formed both via intermolecular coordination bonding to calcium ions, with the aid of internal water.

Renal tubular epithelial cell injury is an important manifestation of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aims to explore the mechanism of astragaloside IV (AS-IV) in the treatment of UII-mediated renal tubular epithelial cell injury by integrating network pharmacology and experimental validation. BATMAN, SwissTarget-Prediction and ETCM data bases were used to screen the target proteins of AS-IV.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can cause blood pressure (BP) elevation in estrogen-deficient, post-menopausal women; however, the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. In this study, the aortic involvement and its underlying mechanisms that contribute to the BP elevation in estrogen-deficient, RA condition were identified. Ovariectomy was performed to create a state of estrogen deficiency and RA was then induced in ovariectomized rats by using incomplete Freund's adjuvant and immune-mediated collagen type-II.
