The production of mouse serum amyloid P component (SAP), a major acute phase protein of liver origin, was studied immunocytochemically using the peroxidase staining technique. SAP was not detectable in the cytoplasm of hepatocytes from normal, unstimulated mice, nor was it observed before 24 h after an acute phase stimulus. 125I-labelled mouse SAP was cleared from the plasma in vivo with a half-life of 7.0-8.25 h in all animals studied including: normal mice of different strains with different genetically determined plasma SAP concentrations; mice undergoing acute phase responses with greatly elevated plasma SAP levels and mice with casein-induced amyloidosis. The circulating level of SAP is thus independent of its rate of clearance and catabolism and is determined by the rate of synthesis and/or secretion of SAP.

Ischemic stroke is a major cause of adult disability. Early treatment with thrombolytics and/or thrombectomy can significantly improve outcomes; however, following these acute interventions, treatment is limited to rehabilitation therapies. Thus, the identification of therapeutic strategies that can help restore brain function in the post-acute phase remains a major challenge.

Unlabelled: This study investigated the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and its associated restrictive measures on infections in children with acute respiratory tract infection. The study aimed to elucidate the epidemiological characteristics of infections before and during the pandemic and following the easing of restrictive measures. Pharyngeal secretions were collected from 1,0174 pediatric patients with acute respiratory infection (ARI) who were admitted to Shaoxing Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital (Shaoxing, China) between May 2018 and December 2023.

Background: Griscelli syndrome (GS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by oculocutaneous albinism and variable immune dysfunction. Among three distinct types of GS, occurring due to different genetic mutations; GS type 1 presents with neurological manifestations, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) generally develops in GS type 2, and GS type 3 primarily exhibits oculocutaneous albinism. HLH, a life-threatening condition with excessive immune activation, may occur secondary to various triggers, including infections, and develop in different tissues, as well as in the testis, similar to Erdheim-Chester disease.

COVID-19 remains a significant global health problem with uncertain long-term consequences for convalescents. We investigated the relationships between anti-N protein antibody levels, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)-CoV-2-associated TCR repertoire parameters, HLA type and epidemiological information from three cohorts of 524 SARS-CoV-2-infected subjects subgrouped in acute phase, seronegative and seropositive convalescents from the Emilia Romagna region. Epidemiological information and anti-N antibody index were associated with TCR repertoire data.
