Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is one of the most common chronic liver diseases and is mainly caused by metabolic disorders and systemic inflammatory responses. Recent studies have indicated that the activation of the mammalian (or mechanistic) target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling participates in MASH progression by facilitating lipogenesis and regulating the immune microenvironment. Although several molecular medicines have been demonstrated to inhibit the phosphorylation or activation of mTOR, their poor specificity and side effects limit their clinical application in MASH treatment.

Introduction: Alterations in multiple subregions of the human prefrontal cortex (PFC) have been heavily implicated in psychiatric diseases. Moreover, emerging evidence suggests that circadian rhythms in gene expression are present across the brain, including in the PFC, and that these rhythms are altered in disease. However, investigation into the potential circadian mechanisms underlying these diseases in animal models must contend with the fact that the human PFC is highly evolved and specialized relative to that of rodents.

Maynard Smith's proposed two-fold cost of sex states that one of the disadvantages of clonal reproduction is the decreased ability to persist in dynamic ecosystems. However, the long-term persistence of some clonal alloploid lineages suggests that these lineages may not always be so ephemeral in nature. Understanding the stability of these lineages over time can inform our understanding of the advantages of an asexual mode of life.

Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM), or myositis, are a heterogeneous group of autoimmune disorders that can affect multiple organs, including the muscles, skin, joints, lungs, heart, and gastrointestinal tract. While new-onset myositis has been reported following SARS-CoV-2 infection, cases associated with COVID-19 vaccination remain rare. We describe a unique case of severe progressive edematous facial myositis resembling angioedema in a 22-year-old man, with onset one to two weeks after receiving dual SARS-CoV-2 and influenza vaccinations.
