Thirty-three focal hepatic lesions later proven to be hemangiomas underwent sonographically guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy. Indications for cytologic assessment were an atypical sonographic pattern in 11 cases, the need to differentiate from liver metastases in 12 patients with a history of neoplasm, and other indications in 10. The aspirated material consisted of blood alone in 24 cases; in the other nine cases, endothelial cells and/or agglomerates of capillaries were demonstrated also, and this was considered to be diagnostic. In one case, intratumoral bleeding was demonstrated sonographically, but no treatment was needed. The possible angiomatous nature of an hepatic lesion should not be considered an absolute contraindication to biopsy, provided that a fine needle is used and the optimal route to the lesion is chosen.

The prevalence of goiter, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancers in the pediatric population has increased. In some rare cases, local conditions such as juvenile desmoid-type fibromatosis (JDTF) can mimic specific thyroid pathology, complicating the diagnostic process. A 17-year-old obese adolescent girl was admitted to the Endocrinology Department with progressive swelling on the left side of the neck, persisting for approximately one year, recently accompanied by dysphonia and inspiratory dyspnea, and ultimately diagnosed as a unilateral nodular goiter associated with compressive phenomena.

Background: Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults. The median overall survival time for patients who develop metastasis is approximately one year. In this study, we aim to leverage deep learning (DL) techniques to analyze digital cytopathology images and directly predict the 48 month survival status on a patient level.

Background: The differential diagnosis between benign and malignant thyroid nodules continues to be a major challenge in clinical practice. The rising incidence of thyroid neoplasm and the low incidence of aggressive thyroid carcinoma, urges the exploration of strategies to improve the diagnostic accuracy in a pre-surgical phase, particularly for indeterminate nodules, and to prevent unnecessary surgeries. Only in 2022, the 5th WHO Classification of Endocrine and Neuroendocrine Tumors, and in 2023, the 3rd Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology and the European Thyroid Association included biomarkers in their guidelines.

Background: Traditional teaching dictated that patients with recurrent thyroid cysts undergo excision owing to a 12% risk malignancy. Ultrasound evaluation now determines management of these patients augmented by fine needle biopsy. In UK, a non-diagnostic category for thyroid cysts (Thy1c) exists, whereas the Bethesda system combines 'non-diagnostic-cyst fluid only' into Category I along with paucicellular and acellular results.
