The trillions of microbial populations residing in the gut have recently shown that they can be used as a remedy for various diseases. The gut microbiota-brain-axis interface is one unique pathway that the microbiota demonstrates its medicinal value. This medicinal value is further seen when there is a decline in gut microbial diversity (dysbiosis).

Mother-to-infant transmission of the bacteriome, virome, mycobiome, archaeome, and their mobile genetic elements has been recognised in nature as an important step for the infant to acquire and maintain a healthy early-life (from birth till age 3 years) microbiota. A comprehensive overview of other maternal multikingdom transmissions remains unavailable, except for that of the bacteriome. Associations between microorganisms and diseases throughout the human life span have been gradually discovered; however, whether these microorganisms are maternally derived and how they concomitantly interact with other microbial counterparts remain poorly understood.

Bacterial blight of pomegranate caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae poses significant challenges to sustainable cultivation, necessitating eco-friendly management strategies, and this study explores the role of the phylloplane microbiome in disease suppression through metabarcoding, traditional microbiology, and antibacterial screening of microbial candidates. Here, we mapped the phylloplane microbiome of pomegranate cultivar 'Bhagwa' during bacterial blight development using metabarcoding sequencing (2443,834 reads), traditional microbiological methods (nutrient-rich and minimal media), and scanning electron microscopy.

Background: Nocturnal cough affects approximately 1 in 3 children, can negatively impact child health, and is often attributable to asthma. The association of the gut microbiome with nocturnal cough has not been investigated.
Objective: To investigate the association between early-life gut microbiome composition and nocturnal cough overall and in the context of asthma.

Since the early 1990s, there has been a dramatic rise in gastrointestinal cancers diagnosed in patients under age 50 for reasons that remain poorly understood. The most significant change has been the increase in incidence rates of early-onset colorectal cancer, especially rates of left-sided colon and rectal cancers. Increases in gastric, pancreatic, and other gastrointestinal cancer diagnoses have further contributed to this trend.
