The control of movement and orientation of gas-phase molecules has become the focus of many research areas in molecular physics. Here, ND3 molecules are polarized in a segmented, curved electrostatic guide and adiabatically aligned inside a rotatable mass spectrometer (MS). Alignment is probed by photoionization using a linearly polarized laser. Rotation of the polarization at fixed MS orientation has the same effect as the rotation of the MS at fixed polarization, proving that the molecular alignment adiabatically follows the MS axis. Polarization-dependent ion signals reveal state-specific populations and allow for a quantification of the aligned sample in the space-fixed reference frame.

Sensitive and rapid detection methods for rare earth elements (REEs), including lanthanides (Lns), will facilitate the mining and recovery of these elements. Here, we innovated a rapid, highly selective and sensitive fluorescence detection method for Lns, based on Hans-Lanmodulin, a newly discovered protein with high selectivity and binding affinity for rare earth elements. By labelling the fluorescein moiety FITC onto Hans-Lanmodulin, named as FITC-Hans-LanM.

This paper investigates the use of spent tyre rubber as a precursor for synthesising adsorbents to recover rare earth elements. Through pyrolysis and CO activation, tyre rubber is converted into porous carbonaceous materials with surface properties suited for rare earth element adsorption. The study also examines the efficiency of leaching rare earth elements from NdFeB magnets using optimised acid leaching methods, providing insights into recovery processes.

Fluorescence thermometry based on metal halide perovskites is increasingly becoming a hotspot due to its advantages of high detection sensitivity, noninvasiveness, and fast response time. However, it still presents certain technical challenges in practical applications, such as complex synthesis methods, the use of toxic solvents, and being currently mainly based on the visible/first near-infrared light with poor penetration and severe autofluorescence. In this study, we synthesize the second near-infrared (NIR-II) luminescent crystals based on Yb/Nd-doped zero-dimensional CsScCl·HO by a simple "dissolve-dry" method.

In molecular beam scattering experiments, an important technique for measuring product energy and angular distributions is velocity map imaging following photoionization of one or more scattered species. For studies with cold molecular beams, the ultimate resolution of such a study is often limited by the product detection process. When state-selective ionization detection is used, excess energy from the ionization step can transfer to kinetic energy in the target molecular ion-electron pair, resulting in measurable cation recoil.

Background: The prevalence of diabetic cognitive impairment (DCI) is significant, some studies have shown that it is related to mitochondrial respiratory chain homeostasis, but the specific mechanism is not clear. 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid (2-HIBA) is a novel short-chain fatty acid with potential applications in the treatment of metabolic diseases because it can regulate mitochondrial disorders. Our aim was to explore a novel mechanism of action for 2-HIBA in the treatment of DCI in mitochondrial respiratory chain homeostasis.
