Cutting mechanics of soft solids is gaining rapid attention thanks to its promising benefits in material characterization and other applications. However, a full understanding of the physical phenomena is still missing, and several questions remain outstanding. : How can we directly and reliably measure toughness from cutting experiments? What is the role of blade sharpness? In this paper, we explore the simple problem of wire cutting, where blade sharpness is only defined by the wire radius.

Study Question: Can exposure to palmitic acid (PA), a common saturated fatty acid, modulate autophagy in both human and mouse trophoblast cells through the regulation of acyl-coenzyme A-binding protein (ACBP)?
Summary Answer: PA exposure before and during pregnancy impairs placental development through mechanisms involving placental autophagy and ACBP expression.
What Is Known Already: High-fat diets, including PA, have been implicated in adverse effects on human placental and fetal development. Despite this recognition, the precise molecular mechanisms underlying these effects are not fully understood.

Department of Life Sciences, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK.
Background: The health benefits associated with recreational running are challenged by the occurrence of running-related injuries (RRIs). Effective preventive measures require knowledge of sport injury etiology. Psychological factors such as perfectionism, mental toughness, and passion are believed to predispose to sports injury by influencing training behaviors, motivation to run, and suppression of feelings of fatigue and pain.
