Introduction Our pilot Emergency Department Discharge Center (EDDC) facilitates post-discharge appointments, and screens for social determinants of health (SDoH) with a long, paper-based tool. No criteria guide which patients to refer to EDDC for appointment-making. Patients screening positive for SDoH are texted or emailed a list of community-based organizations (CBOs) to contact; the screening tool doesn't assess patients' interest or ability to contact CBOs.

We report a case of renal tuberculosis combined with bladder cancer. The patient was a 57-year-old man with no history of tuberculosis who presented with hematuria and signs of urinary tract irritation. Computed tomography (CT) showed florid, bowel-filling calcifications at the level of the right renal hilum, multiple hyperdense shadows from the right renal pelvis to the ureter, and left pyelo-ureteral effusion.

It is consensus that clinically relevant antibiotic resistance genes have their origin in environmental bacteria, including the large pool of primarily benign species. Yet, for the vast majority of acquired antibiotic resistance genes, the original environmental host(s) has not been identified to date. Closing this knowledge gap could improve our understanding of how antimicrobial resistance proliferates in the bacterial domain and shed light on the crucial step of initial resistance gene mobilization in particular.

Article Synopsis
  • Frontal view morphing using chiaroscuro techniques enhances pre-operative consultations in rhinoplasty, helping surgeons explain potential outcomes by accurately representing light and shadow on nasal structures.
  • In a study involving 126 patients, the morphing process included photo analysis during consultations, leading to higher patient satisfaction post-surgery compared to pre-operative simulations.
  • The chiaroscuro concept is crucial in creating realistic surgical plans and serves as an effective educational tool for young surgeons during preoperative consultations.

Green synthesis of carbon dot structures from and Schottky diode fabrication.

Beilstein J Nanotechnol

November 2024

Department of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Atatürk University, 25240, Erzurum, Turkey.

In this study, we aimed to synthesize new carbon dot structures (CDs) in a single step by using the plant for the first time and to contribute to the studies in the field of diode fabrication by using the new CDs. The CDs were obtained by hydrothermal synthesis, which is commonly used in the literature. TEM and zeta potential measurements were used to determine morphology and sizes of the CDs, and XRD, XPS, and FTIR and micro-Raman spectroscopy were used for structural characterization.
