Enzymatic browning and microbial growth are two natural phenomena that occur when fruits and vegetables are exposed to abnormal conditions, i.e., temperatures in the range of 12-22 °C, leading to their spoilage. Controlling the temperatures during the supply chain aims to optimize the product's shelf life. Irreversible thermochromic beads were fabricated using a simple extrusion technique containing fatty acid, lecithin, and anthocyanin solution-alginate. The pigmentation durability was adjusted based on electrostatic interactions, as evidenced by the reduction in dye leaching in the case of the produced bead at pH = 6 to less than 0.007 after 45 min. Characterization shows that the chosen combination of fatty acids and the quinonoid molecule is useful for producing thermochromic beads, with a color change at 12 °C-22 °C, from blue to purple. Using the prepared thermochromic beads in the supply chain of fresh-cut salad and brussels sprouts showed a great result for monitoring their freshness after 21 ± 1 min.

Purpose: Heat-induced destruction of cancer cells via microwave ablation (MWA) is emerging as a viable treatment of primary and metastatic liver cancer. Prediction of the impacted zone where cell death occurs, especially in the presence of vasculature, is challenging but may be achieved via biophysical modeling. To advance and characterize thermal MWA for focal cancer treatment, an in vivo method and experimental dataset were created for assessment of biophysical models designed to dynamically predict ablation zone parameters, given the delivery device, power, location, and proximity to vessels.

We exploited the high temporal and spatial resolution of neutron spin echo spectroscopy to investigate the large-scale dynamics of semiflexible conjugated polymer chains in solutions. We used a generalized approach of the well-established Zimm model of flexible polymers to describe the relaxation mode spectra of locally stiff polythiophene chains. The Zimm mode analysis confirms the existence of beads with a finite length that corresponds to a reduced number of segmental modes in semiflexible chains.

Electrothermal micropumps (ETμPs) use local heating to create conductivity and permittivity gradients in the pump medium. In the presence of such gradients, an external AC electric field influences smeared spatial charges in the bulk of the medium. When there is also a symmetry break, the field-charge interaction results in an effective volumetric force resulting in medium pumping.
