This study aimed to compare the effects of 12 weeks of functional strength training combined with aerobic training (TG) and traditional resistance training combined with aerobic training (CG) on the body composition, physical fitness, and movement quality of obese adolescents. Forty participants were randomly assigned to either the TG group ( = 20) or the CG group ( = 20). Each group underwent training five times per week, lasting 120 min each time, over a total period of 12 weeks. All participants followed a strict dietary program. Anthropometric parameters, body composition, physical fitness, and movement quality were evaluated at baseline and after intervention. A two-way repeated measures ANOVA observed a significant interaction between time and group for body mass ( = 0.043), body fat percentage ( = 0.045), body mass index ( = 0.025), neck circumference ( = 0.01), chest circumference ( = 0.027), left-hand grip strength ( = 0.043), right-hand grip strength ( = 0.048), standing broad jump ( = 0.044), and total Functional Movement Screen score ( = 0.003), and the improvement was greater for TG in comparison to CG. TG was found to be more effective than CG in enhancing body composition, physical fitness, and movement quality in obese adolescents.

Intratumoral drug delivery systems hold immense promise in overcoming the limitations of conventional IV chemotherapy, particularly in enhancing therapeutic efficacy and minimizing systemic side effects. In this study, we introduce a novel redox-responsive intratumoral nanogel system that combines the biocompatibility of natural polysaccharides with the tailored properties of synthetic polymers. The nanogel features a unique cross-linked architecture incorporating redox-sensitive segments, designed to leverage the elevated glutathione levels in the tumor microenvironment for controlled drug release.

Microbiota encompasses a diverse array of microorganisms inhabiting specific ecological niches. Gut microbiota significantly influences physiological processes, including gastrointestinal motor function, neuroendocrine signalling, and immune regulation. They play a crucial role in modulating the central nervous system and bolstering body defence mechanisms by influencing the proliferation and differentiation of innate and adaptive immune cells.

Background: Intensive care unit-acquired weakness (ICU-AW) is a complication characterized by decreased muscle mass and impairments in strength and physical function and is associated with poor quality of life and worse clinical outcomes. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the prevalence of ICU-AW, and secondary objectives were to assess risk factors and analyze the associations with clinical outcomes.
Methods: This is a prospective cohort study of patients on mechanical ventilation (MV).
Introduction There are controversies about whether women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) show a disproportionately higher visceral adiposity, and its relevance to their higher cardiometabolic risks. We investigated in women of Asian Indian descent in Mauritius, a population inherently prone to abdominal obesity, whether those with PCOS will show a more adverse cardiometabolic risk profile that could be explained by abnormalities in fat distribution. Methods Young women newly diagnosed with PCOS (n=25) were compared with a reference control cohort (n =139) for the following measurements made after an overnight fast: body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), body composition by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, blood pressure and blood assays for glycemic (glucose, HbA1c, insulin) and lipid (triglycerides, cholesterols) profiles.

The main aim of the current study was to compare the effects of two strength training modalities (hypertrophy vs. contrast training) on bone health parameters, physical performance and quality of life in a group of subjects aged 60 and above with low skeletal muscle mass index (SMI). 45 older adults voluntarily participated in this study, but only 41 (22 women and 19 men) completed it.
