is a gram-negative coccobacillus that is commonly transmitted through animal bites including cats and dogs. The degree of infection can be worrisome in the immunosuppressed population with a stark correlation in patients with cirrhosis. However, taking that population into account, only 13 cases of bacteraemia have been recorded with the majority of those cases having cirrhotic liver disease along with multiple comorbidities. Here, we present an elderly patient with only pertinent medical history of mixed hyperlipidaemia who presents after a mechanical fall with acute renal failure and septic shock secondary to bacteraemia.

Many reputable medical journals, including The Lancet and the BMJ, have adopted the term "Theranostics". Under the alternative term "Theragnostics", PubMed currently registers 1207 articles. Both terms encountered by the reader for the first time are puzzling and largely meaningless, if not confusing.

Explaining biodiversity is a fundamental issue in ecology. A long-standing puzzle lies in the paradox of the plankton: many species of plankton feeding on a limited variety of resources coexist, apparently flouting the competitive exclusion principle (CEP), which holds that the number of predator (consumer) species cannot exceed that of the resources at a steady state. Here, we present a mechanistic model and demonstrate that intraspecific interference among the consumers enables a plethora of consumer species to coexist at constant population densities with only one or a handful of resource species.

The nanoconfinement effects of glassy polymer thin films on their thermal and mechanical properties have been investigated thoroughly, especially with an emphasis on its altered glass transition behavior compared to bulk polymer, which has been known for almost three decades. While research in this direction is still evolving, reaching new heights to unravel the underlying physics of phenomena observed in confined thin polymer films, we have a much clearer picture now. This, in turn, has promoted their application in miniaturized and functional applications.

Plasmodium falciparum undergoes sequestration within deep tissues of the human body, spanning multiple organ systems with differing oxygen (O2) concentrations. The parasite is exposed to an even greater range of O2 concentrations as it transitions from the human to the mosquito host, suggesting a high level of plasticity as it navigates these different environments. In this review, we explore factors that may contribute to the parasite's response to different environmental O2 concentrations, recognizing that there are likely multiple pieces to this puzzle.
