(AlCrTiZrMo)N coatings with varying Mo content were successfully prepared using a multi-target co-deposition magnetron sputtering system. The results reveal that the Mo content significantly affects the microstructure, hardness, fracture toughness, and tribological behavior of the coatings. As the Mo content in the coatings increases gradually, the preferred orientation changes from (200) to (111). The coatings consistently exhibit a distinct columnar structure. Additionally, the hardness of the coatings increases from 24.39 to 30.24 GPa, along with an increase in fracture toughness. The friction coefficient is reduced from 0.72 to 0.26, and the wear rate is reduced by 10 times. During the friction process, the inter-column regions of the coatings are initially damaged, causing the wear track to exhibit a wavy pattern. Greater frictional heat is generated at the crest of the wave, resulting in the formation of a MoO lubricating layer. The friction reaction helps to reduce the shear force during friction, demonstrating the lower friction coefficient of the (AlCrTiZrMo)N coatings. Both the hardness and fracture toughness work together to reduce the wear rate, and the (AlCrTiZrMo)N coatings show excellent wear resistance. Most notably, although the columnar structure plays a negative role in the hardness, it contributes greatly to the wear resistance.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is distinguished as a high-grade malignant tumor, characterized by rapid systemic metastasis, particularly to the lungs, resulting in very low survival rates. Understanding the complexities of tumor development and mutation is the need of the hour for the advancement of targeted therapies in cancer care. A significant innovation in this area is the use of nanotechnology, specifically nanoparticles, to tackle various challenges in cancer treatment.

Keratoconus is a progressive corneal ectasia characterized by irregular astigmatism, leading to corneal scarring and decreased vision. Corneal cross-linking (CXL) is the standard treatment to halt disease progression, but its effectiveness in transepithelial (epithelium-on, epi-on) approaches is limited by the low permeability of the corneal epithelium to riboflavin (Rb). This study aimed to enhance transepithelial Rb penetration in bovine corneas using Rb-modified tannic acid-coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Rb-TA-SPIONs) under an external magnetic field.

Janus particles (JPs), initially introduced as soft matter, have evolved into a distinctive class of materials that set them apart from traditional surfactants, dispersants, and block copolymers. This mini-review examines the similarities and differences between JPs and their molecular counterparts to elucidate the unique properties of JPs. Key studies on the assembly behavior of JPs in bulk phases and at interfaces are reviewed, highlighting their unique ability to form diverse, complex structures.

Herein, we present the development and evaluation of a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sensor for the sensitive and selective detection of -nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) in aqueous environments. MIP coatings over electrochemically active electrodes enable NDMA detection with a notably low detection limit of 1.16 ppb.

Hydrophilic coating embolism (HCE) is a rare and underreported complication in neurointerventional practice that can lead to serious medical consequences. Two endovascular procedures were interrupted at our institution after a cloudy liquid content was observed inside the rotating hemostatic valves (RHV) during microcatheter withdrawal. In both cases, the same type of microcatheter (Prowler Select Plus) and RHV (Merit) were being used, and coating dislodgement was suspected.
