Social media has dramatically influenced how individuals and groups express their demands, concerns, and aspirations during social demonstrations. The study of X or Twitter hashtags during those events has revealed the presence of some temporal points characterised by high correlation among their participants. It has also been reported that the connectivity presents a modular-to-nested transition at the point of maximum correlation. The present study aims to determine whether it is possible to characterise this transition using entropic-based tools. Our results show that entropic analysis can effectively find the transition point to the nested structure, allowing researchers to know that the transition occurs without the need for a network representation. The entropic analysis also shows that the modular-to-nested transition is characterised not by the diversity in the number of hashtags users post but by how many hashtags they share.

A novel silica-based material (SBM), synthesized from chemically-, thermally-, and mechanically-treated blast furnace slag (TBFS), was examined for its batch-mode lead adsorption capacity based on various parameters. Physicochemical examinations revealed that the formulation of the new SBM consisted mainly of silica, which represented 81.79% of its total composition.

Context: Riboflavin (RF), also known as B2 vitamin, is the precursor to flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), two co-enzymes involved in many electron transport processes. Interactions of the isoalloxazine ring, common to all three compounds, are of great interest due to their biological function in flavoproteins and relevance in the transport by the carrier protein leading to development of drug delivery strategies and non-invasive diagnostics techniques. Based on protein crystallographic data, a computational investigation of the interactions in the complexes between lumiflavin, a model compound, and aromatic amino acids, tyrosine and tryptophan, was pursued with the goal of characterizing noncovalent interactions.

Applications of Entropy in Data Analysis and Machine Learning: A Review.

Entropy (Basel)

Since its origin in the thermodynamics of the 19th century, the concept of entropy has also permeated other fields of physics and mathematics, such as Classical and Quantum Statistical Mechanics, Information Theory, Probability Theory, Ergodic Theory and the Theory of Dynamical Systems. Specifically, we are referring to the classical entropies: the Boltzmann-Gibbs, von Neumann, Shannon, Kolmogorov-Sinai and topological entropies. In addition to their common name, which is historically justified (as we briefly describe in this review), another commonality of the classical entropies is the important role that they have played and are still playing in the theory and applications of their respective fields and beyond.

A Chaos Synchronization Diagnostic: Difference Time Series Peak Complexity (DTSPC).

Chaotic systems can exhibit completely different behaviors given only slightly different initial conditions, yet it is possible to synchronize them through appropriate coupling. A wide variety of behaviors-complete chaos, complete synchronization, phase synchronization, etc.-across a variety of systems have been identified but rely on systems' phase space trajectories, which suppress important distinctions between very different behaviors and require access to the differential equations.

Article Synopsis
  • The study used a hybrid B3LYP version of Density Functional Theory to analyze the properties of mustard-type cancer drugs, melphalan and bendamustine, in water, focusing on their geometry, vibrational characteristics, and various electrical properties.
  • Findings showed that these drugs have low ionization energies, indicating significant antioxidant potential, with melphalan's zwitterionic form being more stable in water compared to bendamustine's.
  • Advanced calculations using the DLPNO-CCSD(T) method confirmed that the canonical form of bendamustine is more stable in water than its zwitterionic counterpart, along with noting particularly high dipole moments for some structures.
