A 43-year-old quarry worker, after being exposed to fine quartz dust for 16 years in a German quarry, is on the waiting list for a lung transplant. The inhalation of the fine dust irreversibly damaged his lungs and facilitated the occurrence of fulminant mycobacterial and fungal infections, which have already led to a unilateral pneumonectomy and increasing respiratory failure. Despite regular monitoring by the occupational health and safety board, this dramatic development of silicosis could not be prevented.

In two experiments, we asked whether the visual system relies on spatial location of the saccade target, as previously found with simple dot stimuli, or relational positions of the objects in the scene during visual stability decisions. Using a modified version of the saccadic suppression of displacement task, we manipulated the information that is displaced in the scene as well as visual stability using intrasaccadic target blanking paradigm.

In a recent study published in Nature, Douglas et al. demonstrate that time-of-day-dependent expression of interleukin-17 by tissue-resident innate lymphocytes in the adipose tissue drives circadian regulation of adipose tissue homeostasis and function.

Background: While the striking impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health, heath care access and lifestyle behaviors, including perceived health, diet, physical activity, and sleep has been reported, few studies have examined these domains jointly among pregnant and postpartum people in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: This mixed methods study was conducted among a subset of participants (n = 22) in a cohort study in Austin, Texas, who were pregnant or had recently delivered when the outbreak occurred. Measures were from the early second trimester up to 6 months postpartum.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled vehicular communications in the sixth generation (6G) are characterized by line-of-sight (LoS) and dynamically varying channel conditions. However, the presence of obstacles in the LoS path leads to shadowed fading environments. In UAV-assisted cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) communication, vehicle and UAV mobility and shadowing adversely impact latency and throughput.
