Indigenous chickens play a crucial role in the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in rural Ethiopia. This study aimed to phenotypically characterize indigenous chickens in the Liban Jawi district, focusing on measurements of phenotypic characteristics. The multi-stage sampling method selected 192 households with at least two mature indigenous chickens from 2,166 households, resulting in the sampling of 224 chickens (138 females and 86 males) for phenotypic characterization.

Primordial germ cells (PGCs), the progenitors of gametes, are essential for teleost reproduction. While their formation is conserved across teleosts, the activation, migration routes, and localization periods vary among species. In this study, we developed a novel transgenic line, Tg(ddx4:TcCFP13-nanos3), based on the Nile tilapia genome, to label PGCs with clear fluorescent signals in the freshwater angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare).

School of Humanities and Social Science, Harbin Medical University, No.157 Baojian Road, Nangang District, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, 150081, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Advance care planning is crucial in palliative care, yet public acceptance varies across different age groups; a study in China revealed an overall acceptance score of 64.03 with younger individuals showing the highest acceptance at 67.13.
  • Various factors such as death education, health literacy, and social support significantly influence acceptance in nonage through old age.
  • The findings highlight the need for targeted strategies considering these influencing factors to improve public acceptance and implementation of advance care planning across different life stages.

Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering and Diagnostics of Electrical Equipment, Institute of Electrodynamics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Beresteyskiy, 56, Kyiv-57, 03680, Ukraine.

This research article meticulously examines advanced power electronic converters crucial for optimizing electrolyzer perfor- mance in hydrogen production systems. It conducts a thorough review of mature electrolyzer types, detailing their specifications, electric models, manufacturers, and scalability. To meet the high current and stable DC voltage demands of industrial electrolyzers, the study delves into a broad spectrum of AC-DC and DC-DC converter topologies.

Erythroblast enucleation at a glance.

J Cell Sci

October 2024

Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry, La Trobe University, Melbourne, VIC 3073, Australia.

Erythroid enucleation, the penultimate step in mammalian erythroid terminal differentiation, is a unique cellular process by which red blood cells (erythrocytes) remove their nucleus and accompanying nuclear material. This complex, multi-stage event begins with chromatin compaction and cell cycle arrest and ends with generation of two daughter cells: a pyrenocyte, which contains the expelled nucleus, and an anucleate reticulocyte, which matures into an erythrocyte. Although enucleation has been compared to asymmetric cell division (ACD), many mechanistic hallmarks of ACD appear to be absent.
