Aim: It is known that a healthy and balanced diet plays an important role in the etiopathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The aim of this study is to show the possible relationship between the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and AMD.
Methods: This observational longitudinal study included 50 patients who were diagnosed with AMD and 100 participants as control group in the Ophthalmology Polyclinic of Kırşehir Ahi Evran Training and Research Hospital between December 2022 and February 2023. The PNI scores of the patients were calculated with the formula (10 × albumin (g/L) + (0.005 × total lymphocyte count), using routine hemogram and biochemical assays.
Results: One hundred fifty participants were included in the study (average age: 73.7 ± 8.6 years, male: 53.3%). When adjusted for age, sex, and total comorbidity index score via multivariate logistic regression analysis, the association between AMD and PNI scores (OR = 0.3; CI: 0.2-0.4; p = 0.01) and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) scores (OR = 6.8; CI: 2.8-16.6; p = 0.01) was statistically significant.
Conclusion: The use of PNI scores may be practical and useful in routine clinical practice for predicting AMD.

Background: Hip fractures are a prevalent and serious health issue, particularly among the elderly population aged >65 years. These injuries are associated with elevated rates of postoperative complications and mortality, significantly diminishing patients' quality of life in both the short- and long-term. The prognosis for recovery is further exacerbated in individuals with signs of malnutrition.

: Studies have shown that inflammation markers can be used as prognostic tools in predicting acute ischemic stroke. In this study, we conducted a comparison of several inflammation scores in predicting left atrial thrombosis (LAT) in patients with ischemic stroke without AF. : In this single-center, retrospective study, we included 303 consecutive patients with ischemic stroke.

: Postmenopausal osteoporosis is characterized by impaired bone metabolism, inflammation, and nutritional deficiencies. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of inflammatory and nutritional markers in identifying decreased bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women. : This cross-sectional study retrospectively analyzed postmenopausal women from January 2018 and December 2023.

Background And Objectives: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at increased risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes due to their compromised immune systems and chronic inflammatory state. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the inflammatory status of COVID-19 patients with CKD, stratified by creatinine clearance (CrCl) levels: CrCl < 30 mL/min, CrCl 30-60 mL/min, and CrCl > 60 mL/min. Multiple inflammatory scores combining laboratory parameters were assessed, including novel scores and established indices.

Aim: This study aimed to compare the prognostic performance of the risk models for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) receiving atezolizumab and bevacizumab (Atez/Bev) as first-line treatment.
Methods: Among 449 patients included in this retrospective multicenter study, we compared the prognostic performance of 13 risk models for the 12-month and 18-month survival status using area under the curve (AUC), net reclassification improvement (NRI), and relative integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) analysis. We also constructed a calibration plot to assess the fitness of each model.
