Emerging evidence showing urothelial cancer in herbalists is linked to aristolochic acid (AA) exposure; however, the exposure pathway remains unclear. Here, we show that dermal contact and inhalation of fine powders of AA-containing herbs are significant occupational AA exposure pathways for herbalists. We initiated the study by quantifying the amount of AA in the AA-containing powder deposited on gloves and face masks worn by the operators of an AA-containing herb grinding machine. Then, we measured the kinetics of dermal absorption and dissolution of AA from fine powders of AA-containing herbs into artificial sweat and surrogate lung fluid. Lastly, we quantified the mutagenic AA-DNA adduct levels formed in the kidneys of mice exposed to AA-containing fine powders through dermal contact. Our findings highlight an urgent occupational risk that should demand implementation of safety standards for herbalists exposed to AA-containing fine powders.

DbChitI-3, Drosera binata's acidic chitinase, peaks at pH 2.5 from 15 °C to 30 °C. Gene expression is stimulated by polysaccharides and suppressed by monosaccharide digestion, implying a feedback loop in its transcriptional regulation.

The present investigation seeks to customize the optical, magnetic, and structural characteristics of nickel oxide (NiO) nanopowders through chromium, iron, cobalt, copper, and zinc doping to enhance optoelectronic applications. In this regard, the preparation of pristine NiO and Ni × O (X = Cr, Fe, Co, Cu, and Zn) powders was successfully achieved through the co-precipitation method. The X-ray powder diffraction was employed to examine the prepared powders' phase formation and crystal structure characteristics.

Background: Spray drying, whilst a popularly employed technique for powder formulations, has limited applications for large-scale proliposome manufacture.
Objectives: Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate spray drying parameters, such as inlet temperature (80, 120, 160, and 200 °C), airflow rate (357, 473, and 601 L/h) and pump feed rate (5, 15, and 25%), for individual carbohydrate carriers (trehalose, lactose monohydrate (LMH), and mannitol) for 24 spray-dried (SD) formulations (F1-F24).
Methods: Following optimization, the SD parameters were trialed on proliposome formulations based on the same carriers and named as spray-dried proliposome (SDP) formulations.

This research describes the synthesis and characterization of a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) as a candidate for the transdermal delivery of curcumin. The MIP was synthesized through precipitation polymerization using methacrylic acid as the functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linking agent. MIP characterization studies were conducted using SEM-EDX and FTIR spectroscopy to determine the morphology and interaction between curcumin and polymers.
