Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a mature T-cell neoplasm characterized by large pleomorphic cells, often with horseshoe- or kidney-shaped nuclei and abundant cytoplasm (hallmark cells), and uniformly strong CD30 expression. Based on ALK expression or ALK rearrangement, ALCL is further classified into ALK-positive (ALK+) and ALK-negative types. This review focuses on the clinicopathologic, immunophenotypic, cytogenetic and molecular features of systemic ALK-negative ALCL.

Age-related changes in the immune system, referred to as immunosenescence, appear to evolve with rather paradoxical manifestations, a diminished adaptive immune capacity, and an increased propensity for chronic inflammation often with autoimmunity, which may underlie the development of diverse disorders with age. Immunosenescent phenotypes are associated with the emergence of unique lymphocyte subpopulations of both T and B lineages. We report that a CD153+ PD-1+ CD4+ T-cell subpopulation with severely attenuated T-cell receptor (TCR)-responsiveness, termed senescence-associated T (SAT) cells, co-evolve with potentially autoreactive CD30+ B cells, such as spontaneous germinal center B cells and age-associated B cells, in aging mice.

Traumatic ulcerative granuloma with stromal eosinophilia (TUGSE) is a reactive and chronic ulcerative lesion that is most frequently found on the tongue. It appears as a large yellowish ulcer with elevated margins and central induration. TUGSEs exhibit a characteristic pattern of regression often spontaneously, following incisional biopsy, or after removal of the potential traumatic trigger.
