DFT calculations demonstrate that an isoacenofuran of any size possesses a smaller HOMO-LUMO gap than the corresponding acene bearing an isoelectronic π-system (i.e., the same total number of rings). Isoacenofurans show limited stability due in part to the highly reactive 1,3-carbons of the furan ring. Both 1,3-dimesitylisobenzofuran and 1,3-di(2',4',6'-triethylphenyl)isobenzofuran, each bearing sterically congesting -alkyl groups on their phenyl substituents, have been synthesized and shown to adopt non-planar conformations with the -alkyl groups located above and below the most reactive 1,3-carbons of the furan ring. These bulky substituents provide a strong measure of kinetic stabilization. Thus, 1,3-dimesitylisobenzofuran and 1,3-di(2',4',6'-triethylphenyl)isobenzofuran are significantly less reactive than 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran toward the strong dienophiles DMAD and acrylonitrile. The insights gained here suggest that the synthesis of large, persistent, kinetically stabilized isoacenofurans with unusually small HOMO-LUMO gaps is achievable. As such, these molecules deserve increased attention as potential p-type organic semiconductors.

In this research, activated carbon from banana peel (BPAC) was prepared by calcination (600 °C) method. Nano composites MO@BPAC (MO=NiO, CuO and ZnO) were prepared and then were characterized by XRD, FTIR, FESM, EDX, BETand TGA methods. Formation of MO@BPAC nanocomposites was confirmed by analysis methods.

Amorphization Stabilizes Te-based Aqueous Batteries via Confining Free Water.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

Fudan University, Laboratory of Advanced Materials, Shanghai, 200433, Shanghai, CHINA.

Tellurium (Te), with its rich valence states (-2 to +6), could endow aqueous batteries with potentially high specific capacity. However, achieving complete and stable hypervalent Te0/Te4+ electrochemistry in an aqueous environment poses significant challenges, owing to the sluggish reduction kinetics, the easy dissolution of Te4+ species, and a controversial energy storage mechanism. Herein, for the first time, we demonstrate an amorphous strategy for robust aqueous TeO2/Te electrochemistry.

Defect-Induced Electron Localization Promotes D2O Dissociation and Nitrile Adsorption for Deuterated Amines.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Tianjin University, Department of Chemistry, #92, Weijin Road, Nankai District, Department of Chemistry, School of Science, Tianjin University, 300072, Tianjin, CHINA.

Electrochemical reductive deuteration of nitriles is a promising strategy for synthesizing deuterated amines with D2O as the deuterated source. However, this reaction suffers from high overpotentials owing to the sluggish D2O dissociation kinetics and high thermodynamic stability of the C≡N triple bond. Here, low-coordinated copper (LC-Cu) is designed to decrease the overpotential for the electrosynthesis of the precursor of Melatonin-d4, 5-methoxytryptamine-d4, by 100 mV with a 68% yield (Faraday efficiency), which is 4 times greater than that of high-coordinated copper (HC-Cu).

Recent Advances in Polymorphism of Organic Solar Cells.

School of Electronics and Information, Northwestern Polytechnical University, 1 Dongxiang Road, Xi'an, 710129, China.

As organic solar cells (OSCs) achieve notable advancements, a significant consensus has been highlighted that the device performance is intricately linked to the active layer morphology. With conjugated molecules being widely employed, intermolecular interactions exert substantial influence over the aggregation state and morphology formation, resulting in distinct molecular packing motifs, also known as polymorphism. This phenomenon is closely associated with processing conditions and exerts a profound impact on functional properties.

Water-lean absorbents are regarded as a new generation of post-combustion CO2 capture technology that could significantly relieve those drawbacks posed by traditional aqueous alkanolamines. However, the exponential increase in viscosity during CO2 absorption remains an urgent issue that needs to be resolved before their practical deployment. In this work, novel water-lean amines based on biomass glycerol have been devised as single-component CO2 absorbents with low viscosity (79~110 cP at 25 oC, 29~39 cP at 40 oC) under high capacity (12~18 wt% at 25 oC, 10~17 wt% at 40 oC).
