An intensive phytochemical investigation into the fruits of Schisandra chinensis afforded 28 triterpenoids incorporating diverse backbones with methyl-migration, ring-expansion and ring-opening features. Among them, ten compounds (1-10) including three likely extracting artefacts (8-10) were described for the first time. Their structures were fully characterized by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses, with the absolute configurations established via electronic circular dichroism and Mosher's NMR techniques. Preliminary biological evaluations revealed that nine isolates showed inhibitory activity against the hyperglycemic target α-glycosidase and 12 compounds exerted cytotoxicity toward three female tumor cell lines (Hela (cervical), MDA-MB231 and MCF-7 (breast)). Compound 6 exhibited the most promising potency on all the three tested cancer cells, and further assessment demonstrated that it could induce significant cell apoptosis and cycle arrest, as well as suppress cell migration, by regulating relevant proteins in MDA-MB231 cells.

Five previously unreported 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) derivatives, including chinenfurfurals A () and B () as 5-HMF-citric acid hybrids and chinenfurfurals C-E (-) as 5-HMF oligomers, as well as four known analogues (-), were isolated from the fruits of a well-known Chinese herbal species . The structures of these furfural compounds were established by detailed analyses of spectroscopic data especially HRMS and NMR, and it is the first report of furfural type constituents from the title species. The anti-inflammatory property of them was further evaluated by testing their inhibition against the production of nitric oxide in lipopolysaccharide-activated murine RAW264.

The appearances of Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus (SSF) and Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus (SCF) are very similar. Thus, being able to distinguish between SSF and SCF is useful for the quality control of these herbal medicines. In this study, two kinds of electrochemical fingerprint analyses using voltammetry or HPLC with electrochemical detection (HPLC-ECD) were developed in combination with multivariate analysis for discriminating between SSF and SCF.

The well-established calcineurin inhibitor, tacrolimus, as an immunosuppressive agent, is widely prescribed after organ transplantation. Cytochrome P450 (CYP 450) isoforms are responsible for the metabolism of many features associated with food parameters like phytochemicals, juices, and fruits. This review article summarizes the findings of previous studies to help predict the efficacy or side effects of tacrolimus in the presence of food variables.

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) can specifically recognize template molecules in solution with imprinted cavities. Due to their capacity for scalable production, they can be used to isolate target products from natural products for industrial production in the fields of pharmaceuticals and food. In this study, magnetic single-template molecularly imprinted polymers (St-MIPs) instead of magnetic multi-template molecularly imprinted polymers (Mt-MIPs) were prepared by surface imprinting using Schizandrol A as a template molecule and deep eutectic solvent (DES) as a functional monomer, combined with solid-phase extraction (SPE) for the adsorption and separation of Schizandrol A, Schisantherin A, Schizandrin A, and Schizandrin B from (Turcz.
