The food industry has grown with the demands for new products and their authentication, which has not been accompanied by the area of analysis and quality control, thus requiring novel process analytical technologies for food processes. An electronic tongue (e-tongue) is a multisensor system that can characterize complex liquids in a fast and simple way. Here, we tested the efficacy of an impedimetric microfluidic e-tongue setup - comprised by four interdigitated electrodes (IDE) on a printed circuit board (PCB), with four pairs of digits each, being one bare sensor and three coated with different ultrathin nanostructured films with different electrical properties - in the analysis of fresh and industrialized coconut water. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was applied to observe sample differences, and Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) was used to predict sample physicochemical parameters. Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and Partial Least Square - Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA) were compared to classify samples based on data from the e-tongue device. Results indicate the potential application of the microfluidic e-tongue in the identification of coconut water composition and determination of physicochemical attributes, allowing for classification of samples according to soluble solid content (SSC) and total titratable acidity (TTA) with over 90% accuracy. It was also demonstrated that the microfluidic setup has potential application in the food industry for quality assessment of complex liquid samples.

This study aims to verify the effects of prolonged ingestion of coconut oil on the adrenal glands of Mongolian gerbils. Mongolian gerbils were used as an experimental model due to the morphological similarity of the adrenal glands to those of primates. Male Mongolian gerbils, 3 months of age, were divided into three experimental groups (n=12): an intact control group, which received no treatment, a gavage control group, which received 0.

Sustainable alternatives to high environmental input feed ingredients are important to reducing the environmental impact of animal agriculture. Protein and oil extracted from cultivation of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae (BSFL) on waste feedstocks such as manure, food waste and plant residues could be a suitable source of nutrients. The oil from BFSL contains large amounts of saturated fatty acids, particularly lauric acid, and may be a more sustainable alternative to palm and coconut oils that are currently used in calf milk replacers in many parts of the world.

Background/objectives: The unique properties of iron oxide nanoparticles have attracted significant interest within the biomedical community, particularly for magnetic hyperthermia applications. Various synthesis methods have been developed to optimize these nanoparticles.
Methods: In this study, we employed a powdered coconut water (PCW)-assisted sol-gel method to produce magnetite nanoparticles for the first time.

Currently, polymer actuators capable of photothermal response are being developed to be more sensitive and repeatable. In this work, a three-layered structured soft film actuator (NA/PET/NI-3) was designed by combining poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), poly(N-(2-aminoethyl)-acrylamide) (PANGA) and poly(ethylene glycol-co-terephthalate) (PET) film. Coconut water and PEI were used to synthesize a new kind of carbon nanosheet (PEI-CCS), which, when triggered by near-infrared light, will enable photothermal bending behavior in the micrometer-scale NA/PET/NI-n film, while PET served as the supporting and heat conducting layer.

Coconut water is a popular drink in tropical countries and worldwide due to its delicious taste, easy consumption and nutritionally rich properties. Our study aimed to identify bioactive compounds of coconut varieties and their antioxidant as well as longevity effects in 2 different groups of coconuts. These include the bleeding coconut varieties, which are currently most available in the market, namely the Ban Phaeo and Ratchaburi coconut varieties, and the traditional coconut varieties, including Kon-jib and Sampran coconut varieties.
