A 14-month-old female spayed, small crossbred rabbit presented for assessment of a small, hard subcutaneous nodule in the right axilla. Serum biochemistry showed markedly increased serum ALP activity. A whole-body CT revealed an aggressive, monostotic osteolytic, and productive lesion within the left alveolar process of the maxilla, with erosion of the alveolar bone and secondary premolar depression. Innumerable metastatic osseous masses were present throughout the body, including cerebral, pulmonary, hepatic, subcutaneous, and skeletal muscular metastases. Postmortem findings confirmed widespread, metastatic osteosarcoma, with the primary lesion within the left maxilla.

Meat rabbits are a small herbivorous livestock and have been popularly raised in China for producing high-quality meat. Therefore, it is economically important to genetically improve both carcass performance and meat quality in meat rabbits. However, we still know less about the underlying candidate genes that may determine phenotypic variation on carcass and meat traits of meat rabbits.

The inclusion of microalgae in livestock diets has been shown to enhance animal productivity, immune response, and meat quality. However, the role of chlorella (Chlorella vulgaris) in growing rabbit nutrition has been scarcely explored, with available studies focusing on low inclusion levels (<1%) and their effects on rabbit growth and immune response. This study evaluated the growth performance, nutrient digestibility, plasma metabolites, caecal fermentative activity, and caecal microbiota composition of growing rabbits fed diets with different inclusion levels of chlorella and crude fat.

The application of heterosis can not only effectively improve the disease resistance and meat quality of livestock, but also significantly enhance the reproduction and growth of livestock and poultry. We conducted genome-wide association studies using data from F2 crossbred meat rabbits to screen out candidate genes with significant dominant effects associated with economic trait variation. High-throughput sequencing technology was used to obtain SNPs covering the whole genome to evaluate the homozygosity of the population genome, and analyze the number, length, frequency, and distribution of ROHs in the population.
