Aging in phase-ordering kinetics of the d=3 Ising model following a quench from infinite to zero temperature is studied by means of Monte Carlo simulations. In this model the two-time spin-spin autocorrelator C_{ag} is expected to obey dynamical scaling and to follow asymptotically a power-law decay with the autocorrelation exponent λ. Previous work indicated that the lower Fisher-Huse bound of λ≥d/2=1.5 is violated in this model. Using much larger systems than previously studied, the instantaneous exponent for λ we obtain at late times does not disagree with this bound. By conducting systematic fits to the data of C_{ag} using different Ansätze for the leading correction term, we find λ=1.58(14), with most of the error attributed to the systematic uncertainty regarding the Ansätze. This result is in contrast to the recent report that below the roughening transition universality might be violated.

We propose a solution to the puzzle of dimensional reduction in the random field Ising model, asking the following: To what random problem in D=d+2 dimensions does a pure system in d dimensions correspond? For a continuum binary fluid and an Ising lattice gas, we prove that the mean density and other observables equal those of a similar model in D dimensions, but with infinite range interactions and correlated disorder in the extra two dimensions. There is no conflict with rigorous results that the finite range model orders in D=3. Our arguments avoid the use of replicas and perturbative field theory, being based on convergent cluster expansions, which, for the lattice gas, may be extended to the critical point by the Lee-Yang theorem.

Nematic ordering in the Heisenberg spin-glass system in three dimensions.

Nematic ordering, where the spins globally align along a spontaneously chosen axis irrespective of direction, occurs in spin-glass systems of classical Heisenberg spins in d=3. In this system where the nearest-neighbor interactions are quenched randomly ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic, instead of the locally randomly ordered spin-glass phase, the system orders globally as a nematic phase. This nematic ordering of the Heisenberg spin-glass system is dramatically different from the spin-glass ordering of the Ising spin-glass system.

A pump coupled to a conserved density generates long-range modulations, resulting from the non-equilibrium nature of the dynamics. We study how these modulations are modified at the critical point where the system exhibits intrinsic long-range correlations. To do so, we consider a pump in a diffusive fluid, which is known to generate a density profile in the form of an electric dipole potential and a current in the form of a dipolar field above the critical point.
