The contributions of academic drug discovery are well characterised in the US context but less well understood elsewhere. This paper provides a UK perspective, focusing on the activities of Drug Discovery Units (DDUs). These units have established themselves as coordinators of translational research, working at the early stages of the drug pipeline to link up the academic and industry capabilities needed to take drug candidates towards the market.

Why should, and how can, the fields of climate science and geroscience (which studies the biology of ageing) facilitate the cross-disciplinary collaboration needed to ensure that human and planetary health are both promoted in the future of an older, and warmer, world? Appealing to the ideal of 'wisdom-oriented' science (Maxwell 1984 In ), where scientists consider themselves to be artisans working for the public good, a number of the real-world epistemic constraints on the scientific enterprise are identified. These include communicative frames that stoke intergenerational conflict (rather than solidarity) and treat the ends of planetary and human health as independent 'sacred values' (Tetlock 2003 , 320-324) rather than as ends. To foster 'climate geroscience'-the field of knowledge and translational science at the intersection of climate science and geroscience-researchers in both fields are encouraged to think of novel ways they could make researchers from the other field 'conversationally' present when framing the aspirations of their respective fields, applying for grant funding and designing their conferences and managing their scientific journals.

Background: Research can inform policies on substance use/substance use disorders (SU/SUDs), yet there is limited experimental investigation into strategies for optimizing policymakers' engagement with SU/SUD research. This study tested the use of narratives to boost policymakers' research engagement.
Methods: In five rapid-cycle randomized controlled trials, SU/SUD research fact sheets were emailed to US legislative policymakers.

The health, economic, and social burden of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Africa remains substantial, with elimination efforts hindered by persistent sociopolitical instability, including ongoing conflicts among political and ethnic groups that lead to internal displacement and migration. Here, we explore how innovative technologies can support Africa in addressing NTDs amidst such instability, through analysis of WHO and UNHCR data and a systematic literature review. Rice serves as a vital staple food, but its accumulation of cadmium (Cd) has sparked widespread concerns regarding food safety and ecosystem security. Here, we conducted a seven-year systematic field experiment in the Xiangjiang River Basin of China, where an integrated governance framework (IGF) was established to ensure rice safety. The IGF, tailored to geographical zoning and pollution gradation, includes targeted soil treatments, crop management strategies, and stakeholder engagement.
