Background/objectives: Whether seasonality is a factor that influences the incidence of acute pancreatitis (AP) is an under-investigated area. If seasonal incidence peaks can be detected, specifically with regard to biliary pancreatitis, has so far been answered in contradictory ways in the literature.
Methods: All AP cases from two tertiary German referral centers were identified between 2016 and 2022 based on ICD-10 discharge codes. The test for goodness of fit was applied to test significant differences in monthly and seasonal distributions of AP admissions.
Results: In total, 3597 AP cases were included. We observed significantly more idiopathic and biliary cases in May to July (p-values 0.041 and 0.027, respectively). Furthermore, most drug-induced APs were identified during the winter months (p-value 0.006). Moreover, there was a significant peak of alcohol-induced pancreatitis in summer and fall (p-value 0.038).
Conclusions: Our data indicate a seasonal impact on AP incidences for certain etiologies.

Background: Prepancreatic postduodenal portal vein (PPPV) is a rare anatomic variant where the portal vein (PV) runs anterior to the pancreas and posterior to the duodenum. Only 20 cases of PPPV, all in adults, have been reported in literature. We report the first case of PPPV in a pediatric patient discovered intraoperatively during total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation (TPIAT) and the third known case in which the PPPV could be isolated intraoperatively.

Method: The study included 114 patients with chronic pancreatitis, who were grouped based on the sequence of onset for chronic pancreatitis and diabetes: normoglycaemia after chronic pancreatitis (NCP), type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and new-onset diabetes or pre-diabetes after chronic pancreatitis (NODCP).

Introduction: Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase 1 (GPD1) deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder causing hypertriglyceridemia, hepatomegaly, fatty liver, and hepatic fibrosis in infancy. It is an under-recognized cause of pediatric steatotic liver disease (SLD) with only 36 cases reported worldwide.
Method: We analyzed the clinical profile of our five cases diagnosed by exome sequencing (ES) and reviewed the published cases till December 2023 using PubMed search.
