Purpose: To investigate the effect of respiratory motion in terms of signal loss in prostate diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and to evaluate the usage of partial Fourier in a free-breathing protocol in a clinically relevant b-value range using both single-shot and multi-shot acquisitions.
Methods: A controlled breathing DWI acquisition was first employed at 3 T to measure signal loss from deep breathing patterns. Single-shot and multi-shot (2-shot) acquisitions without partial Fourier (no pF) and with partial Fourier (pF) factors of 0.75 and 0.65 were employed in a free-breathing protocol. The apparent SNR and ADC values were evaluated in 10 healthy subjects to measure if low pF factors caused low apparent SNR or overestimated ADC.
Results: Controlled breathing experiments showed a difference in signal coefficient of variation between shallow and deep breathing. In free-breathing single-shot acquisitions, the pF 0.65 scan showed a significantly (p < 0.05) higher apparent SNR than pF 0.75 and no pF in the peripheral zone (PZ) of the prostate. In the multi-shot acquisitions in the PZ, pF 0.75 had a significantly higher apparent SNR than 0.65 pF and no pF. The single-shot pF 0.65 scan had a significantly lower ADC than single-shot no pF.
Conclusion: Deep breathing patterns can cause intravoxel dephasing in prostate DWI. For single-shot acquisitions at a b-value of 800 s/mm, any potential risks of motion-related artefacts at low pF factors (pF 0.65) were outweighed by the increase in signal from a lower TE, as shown by the increase in apparent SNR. In multi-shot acquisitions however, the minimum pF factor should be larger, as shown by the lower apparent SNR at low pF factors.

Glycerol-(9,10-trioxolane) trioleate (OTOA) is a promising material that combines good plasticizing properties for PLA with profound antimicrobial activity, which makes it suitable for application in state-of-the-art biomedical and packaging materials with added functionality. On the other hand, application of OTOA in PLA-based antibacterial materials is hindered by a lack of knowledge on kinetics of the OTOA release. In this work, the release of glycero-(9,10-trioxolane) trioleate (OTOA) from PLA films with 50% OTOA content was studied during incubation in normal saline solution, and for the first time, the kinetics of OTOA release from PLA film was evaluated.

Statistical counting is the holographic observable to a statistical dynamics with finite states under independent and identically distributed sampling. Entropy provides the infinitesimal probability for an observed empirical frequency ν^ with respect to a probability prior p, when ν^≠p as N→∞. Following Callen's postulate and through Legendre-Fenchel transform, without help from mechanics, we show that an internal energy u emerges; it provides a linear representation of real-valued observables with full or partial information.

Considering a universal deep neural network organized as a series of nested qubit rotations, accomplished by adjustable data re-uploads we analyze its expressivity. This ability to approximate continuous functions in regression tasks is quantified making use of a partial Fourier decomposition of the generated output and systematically benchmarked with the aid of a teacher-student scheme. While the maximal expressive power increases with the depth of the network and the number of qubits, it is fundamentally bounded by the data encoding mechanism.

The conformational space of 3-chloropropionic acid has been studied under the isolated conditions of a supersonic expansion using Stark-modulated free-jet absorption millimeter-wave and centimeter-wave chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy techniques. The rotational spectra originating from the three most stable conformers including Cl and Cl isotopologues were observed in both experiments using helium expansion while a partial conformational relaxation involving skeletal rearrangements takes place in an argon expansion. The rotational parameters, geometries, and energy order were determined from the experiment, allowing a comparison with quantum chemical predictions.
