Background: Vertebral body tethering (VBT) has shown improvements in coronal and sagittal plane correction in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients, but axial correction over time remains unexplored. Three-dimensional (3D) spine reconstruction was used to analyse correctional changes in all spinal planes post VBT surgery.
Case Description: AIS subjects who underwent thoracic VBT surgery with a minimum 2-year follow-up were assessed.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most frequent form of dementia and represents an increasing global burden, particularly in countries like Indonesia, where the population has begun to age significantly. Current medications, including cholinesterase inhibitors and NMDA receptor antagonists, have modest effects on clinical symptoms in the early to middle stages, but there is no curative treatment available so far despite progress. Activating or repressing epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation, histone modification and microRNA regulation, appears to play an important role in AD development.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe present a new, to the best of our knowledge, approach for self-heterodyne optical frequency comb (OFC) spectroscopy in which a single Mach-Zehnder modulator is utilized to generate both an optical frequency comb and a frequency-shifted local oscillator. This method allows for coherent, time-domain averaging to be performed without the need for feedback mechanisms or software corrections. As an initial demonstration, we have measured acetylene rovibrational transition frequencies with coherently averaged comb spectra.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn this Letter, we propose a high-performance optimized detection scheme based on a neural network (NN) in a receiver digital signal processing (DSP) for bandwidth-limited intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) transmission systems. The NN-based optimized detection scheme consists of two components, an NN-based lookup table (NN-LUT) and an NN-based log-maximum estimation with a fixed number of surviving state (NN-MAP) decoder. The NN-LUT provides more accurate and sufficient information (PI) to the decoder than the conventional filter-form PI without increasing computational complexity.
