Reactions that change the identity of an atom within a ring system are emerging as valuable tools for the site-selective editing of molecular structures. Herein, we describe the expansion of an underdeveloped transformation that directly converts azaarene-derived -oxides to all-carbon arenes. This ring transmutation exhibits good functional group tolerance and replaces the -oxide moiety with either unsubstituted, substituted, or isotopically labeled carbon atoms in a single laboratory operation.

Control charts are commonly used for process monitoring under the assumption that the variable of interest follows a normal distribution. However, this assumption is frequently violated in real-world applications. In this study, we develop an adaptive control chart based on the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) statistic to monitor irregular variations in the mean of the Truncated Transmuted Burr-II (TTB-II) distribution, employing Hastings approximation for normalization.

Partitioning and transmutation are important strategies for closing the nuclear fuel cycle. The diglycolamide extractant TODGA has played a major role in the development of solvent extraction processes for nuclear fuel reprocessing due to its good extraction performance, its hydrolytic and radiolytic stability, and its compliance with the CHON principle. However, due to drawbacks such as the tendency to form a third phase during extraction if no phase modifiers are used, continued research on diglycolamide-type extractants has led to the development of diglycolamides with decreased symmetry.

The NanoPlasmonic Laser Induced Fusion Energy (NAPLIFE) project proposed fusion by regulating the laser light absorption via resonant nanorod antennas implanted into hydrogen rich urethane acrylate methacrylate (UDMA) and triethylene glycol dimethylacrylate (TEGDMA) copolymer targets. In part of the tests, boron-nitride (BN) was added to the polymer. Our experiments with resonant nanoantennas accelerated protons up to 225 keV energy.

Heterocycle skeletal editing has recently emerged as a powerful tactic for achieving heterocycle-to-heterocycle transmutation without the need for multistep de novo heterocycle synthesis. However, the enantioselective skeletal editing of heteroarenes through single-atom logic remains challenging. Here we report the enantiodivergent dearomative skeletal editing of indoles and pyrroles via an asymmetric carbon-atom insertion, using trifluoromethyl N-triftosylhydrazones as carbene precursors.

The visualization of transparent specimens in traditional light microscopy is impeded by insufficient intrinsic contrast, prompting the development of advanced contrast-enhancement methodologies to transmute minute phase discrepancies into detectable amplitude alterations. While existing methods excel in either phase-contrast imaging (contrast-enhanced image of whole objects) or relief-like imaging (deceptive three-dimensional images), it would be of great significance to seamlessly integrate both capabilities in the same device. Here, we propose a novel metasurface-assisted half-side phase-contrast technique capable of simultaneous phase-contrast and relief-like imaging across the visible spectrum, which is realized by introducing a ±π/2 phase shift to a half-side diffracted wave emitted by the objects.
